My Choices for Winter Getaways

We wouldn't be British if we didn't moan and whine about how cold it is every 5 minutes.

With all this ice cold Arctic weather we've been having lately, it's no surprise to see people on my social media timelines pining and yearning to jump on an aeroplane and fly somewhere away from the UK. We all want to be lazing around on a hammock, surrounded by palm trees, overlooking the white sandy beaches with the sound of the waves in the background.
This got me pondering about the places I'd love to visit at this time of year. For me, it doesn't necessarily have to be a boiling hot destination, it can be somewhere where it is just as cold as it has been here. For me, it's about exploring and experiencing other country's cultures and values.
Here are my top picks for a winter getaway:

Germany has always seemed to have an appeal to me. The many beautiful festive Christmas markets across the German cities, particularly Cologne, offer so much to get even the Scrooges into the spirit of Christmas.
The local culture provides tourists with such historic attractions, from the fairy-tale castles to the perfect countryside, of course not forgetting Oktoberfest, which takes place in the country's capital, Munich. A festival where the tourists and locals can taste and devour the local food and drink. My idea of heaven.

Ah yes, the Big Apple. The most exciting and dynamic city in the world. And where Friends was set. I know it wasn't filmed in New York, but still. Anyway, New York is a city that is well known for it's iconic landmarks. From the classic attractions such as the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and Brooklyn Bridge to the many fashion boutiques and stores, New York will never leave you bored. The museums and art galleries are there for the more cultural person to experience. Frank Sinatra sang about it, so the city is definitely worth the flight over.

The country with stunning and picturesque outdoor scenery. Canada is one for holidaymakers who love their nature. From the snow top mountains to the beautiful lakes, Canada really does offer tourists some truly Instgrammable pictures. There are 41 national parks, making it difficult to choose the best one to go to during your holiday.

Fancy a skiing holiday? Then Austria is the place to fly on a plane to. Now, I'm not one for skiing and I don't think I ever will be. Myself ice skating at Winter Wonderland is a sight to behold. I'm like the human version of Bambi when I step my ice skate onto the ice. Anyway, if you have better balance than I do, Austria has so much to offer for winter sports and skiers. Also the buildings are very photographable and, I didn't realise this, their first official language is German. You live and learn.

Now, I know we all look for bargains and discounts when it comes to booking a holiday. *Thanks to Venture Travel, if you type in LUCY25 when you get to the checkout, you can get £25 off your next destination. A good discount I think!

What is your ideal winter getaway destination?
