As you all and everybody else who follows my social media pages knows, I recently had a little weekend break in my happy place, Liverpool. It was lovely to have some quality time with my Mam, we've had a rough few months so it was nice to get on a (dirty) Arriva train and head off somewhere to get away from it all.
It was my Mam's first time up there so it was extra special for her, plus the fact she's never been on the grounds of Anfield before, let alone inside it. So yes, we took the tour and had a fabulous morning. The day we were meant to go home, I decided I needed a little walk by myself to appreciate Liverpool in all it's beauty.
I love going for little walks on my own. It gives me the chance to clear my head, have a mindless wonder and in Liverpool it gives me the opportunity to admire the stunning architecture from old and classic to new and modern.
There's something special, which I can't put my finger on, about taking yourself off and just exploring new surroundings and taking in everything that's around you. In this day and age we are so obsessed with social media, which means we our eyes are glued to our screens, which means you are missing what is going on around you. Also cause we are all so busy, we just don't have the time to sit down and watch the world go by. This was my perfect opportunity to do the exact opposite, sit down on a bench on the Strand and just watch the people pass me by, listen to the seagulls squawk at some food they've spotted on the pavement and just appreciate my happy place in all it's beauty. They say that it's the little insignificant things that you appreciate more of rather than the big, significant things.
I don't get the chance to do something like this in Newport due to work and other commitments, but it's something I would love to able to do in my home town. But it's just finding the time.
So yes, next stop you go for a stroll by yourself, turn your mobile data off, put your phone on silent and just watch the world revolve around you, there's a good chance you'll miss something than just scrolling through your phone. Be more perceptive.
Where do you like taking a stroll?
Lucy
