Trying To Regain Some Normality

I don't need to tell you what is going on in the world right now. It feels like a bad dream that we're all awaiting to wake up from.

All of our routines have been thrown out of whack. Some are working from home, some aren't able to do that. Some amazing people AKA NHS workers are putting their lives on the line to save us and take care of us. Something which I can safely we are eternally grateful for.

Trying To Regain Some Normality

So yes, life just seems, well, overwhelming right now. I'm in full self isolation mode now for the next 12 weeks, something which I'm dreading but something I'm kind of pleased about as I don't have to go out feeling paranoid about any people I come across in Tesco.

For the last few days, I've been trying to take my mind off anything pandemic related and been doing those jobs around the house that needed doing. You know, those jobs which aren't quite urgent but you've been meaning to do.

What have I done so far? I've sorted my shoe cupboard, cleaned my kitchen cupboards, started learning Spanish, organised my meds table as it was in complete disarray, hoovered underneath the sofa cushions and have written a few posts for my blog. I've even started an isolation diary which I will eventually publish on Lucy Mary when this much needed curfew is over. As you can tell, I'm determined to not let the boredom beat me.

Trying To Regain Some Normality

As much as the C-word has dominated our lives in a just small amount of time, in order for me to get through this, I need to regain some sense of normality. Ok, I know I can't venture in the outdoors, but I want to live as normal life indoors as I did before. I want to continue to write, I want to keep publishing new posts, I want to shoot some new photo's, I want to keep to my already vigorous exercise routine. Nothing about my usual routine has changed, I've just added a couple of extra tasks eg cleaning to it.

People may say that it's 'wrong' for me to have this attitude. Of course it's not, I'm just as scared and worried about what's going on in the world right now. Even more so as I am seen as high risk of getting this virus. I just don't want it to let it control my thoughts. I am doing everything I need to do. I'm not going out, I'm washing my hands all of the time whilst singing 'Happy Birthday' twice (I could sand down wood with my knuckles they feel that rough) , I'm drinking so much that I need to have a wee every hour, which means I've entered the vicious cycle of weeing = washing my hands = even rougher hands.

Trying To Regain Some Normality

To keep my sanity, I need to do normal things and be normal (as much as humanly possible for myself). This will pass, as long as we stay in, don't go out unnecessarily and continue to keep to a high standard form of hygiene, it will eventually pass. We will be able to go out again, all we're asked to do is stay at home and watch TV - is that really such a hard thing to do?

If you feel like you want to continue to lead as normal as life as possible in such daunting circumstances, don't let people tell you otherwise. We all have different coping mechanisms, this is mine. But for the love of god stay in, the sooner we ALL follow the rules, the sooner this nightmare will be over and we can wake up to some real sense of normality!

Lucy

  2. I agree that it's so important to find some sense of normalcy instead of giving into the fear. For me, working on my blog is able to give me that normalcy. Stay safe, Lucy!

  5. I think this is a great mentality to get through these tough times! Obviously our lives aren't the same as they were but I do think it's important to try and keep to our usual schedules as much as we can. Hopefully this will pass soon x

  6. I'm not sure who would tell you it's wrong to keep some form of normalcy. Isn't that what all of us are trying to do to remain sane?

  7. I think it's super important to keep a sense of normality! Of course, we are in the least normal situation we've been in a long time but I think we'd all go mad if every part of our routine went completely out of the window. I also think it's okay to change things up if you need to, it's all about doing what you can to stay sane in this time - as long as you're following the rules of course!

  8. Good to hear that you are trying to keep things going normally, I was wondering how the 12 weeks will affect people yourself. I'm to finding it a struggle even though I'm not on complete lock down sometimes I wish us diabetics would be on full isolation!

Good luck with it all :)

  12. Ive also struggled to find some normality. Last week I was really just getting into the swing of things and it was not going particularly well - at times I couldn't remember which day it was! Now, I've tried to regain some routine by setting an alarm and sticking to a time table of when I'm working and when I have free time and when I'll go for a run. For me, my GCSE's have just been cancelled so I have six months until September with nothing much going on - all summer plans cancelled now - so am using routine to try and make the most of this time!

Hope you're okay and staying safe xx

  14. Those PJs look so cosy! And I'm totally with you on trying to keep normality but it's so hard when even simple things like the gym aren't an option (rightly so - but workouts are a great thing to build a routine around). I work from home anyway but now my mum is working from home too it feels a bit like my entire routine has been disrupted because she's here. Hoping I can figure out my new normal soon. Stay strong! x

  15. I must say, I absolutely love the style of your bedroom and your pajamas look so cute Lucy!

I'm totally in agreement with you on the subject of finding normality. I'm struggling at the moment I won't lie. I had so much content planned and so much I was looking forward to this Spring, and the giant C word has really thrown me off. I'm working so hard to adjust my mindset though and find new ways of finding calm and joy. Fortunately, I'm a key worker and so is my partner which means we're both still working and keeping busy. I can't imagine my days if I was stuck at home, my restless brain would struggle.

Take care and stay safe. I'm always here if you need to chat x

  17. It's important we all do what we need to do in order to stay somewhat sane during all of this! My routine hasn't changed massively as I work from home anyway. But having my boyfriend, my mum and my dad all at home constantly (when they're not normally) has really changed our routine. My Mum is going a bit stir crazy cos she's always at work! x

  18. Working from home was a bit strange to begin with but I definitely feel I'm more into a routine with it now. I've also been enjoying the fact I can get a workout in afterwards without a 40 minute commute, I can just shut the laptop away and crack on! I really like the sound of an isolation diary - wish I'd thought of that! I'm also in the same boat as you on the drinking lots of water = more peeing = more hand-washing so I feel your pain. Aveeno hand cream is my best right right now! x
