My Ways Of Maintaining A Healthy & Fun Lifestyle

*The items in this post have been gifted. See disclaimer below.

I bet there were a few laughs and scoffs when you read the title. How can somebody like me, someone with a life threatening illness possibly maintain a healthy lifestyle?! But hear me out.

Maintaining a healthy and fun lifestyle doesn't have to be a chore. I know some people (including myself) have given up the goal of changing one aspect of our lifestyle a day or two after New Year. Lifestyle changes don't have to happen on January 1st. You, yes you, can make those changes at any point in the year, Maybe on your birthday, on Valentines or even on 6th August (just a random date) . They don't have to be drastic changes either. Just take a small step at a time, usually doing it that way helps you make the change more easily and you're more likely to make the change permanently.

My Ways Of Maintaining A Healthy & Fun Lifestyle

My doctors tell me that I can gorge on as many KFC's or Burger Kings as I please to keep up my weight gain (hurrah) . However, I don't like to divulge into too many chicken wings or burgers as it gives me such a bloated feeling. I do like to add a little bit of a healthy option into my life. Here's what I do:

1) DRINKING  PLENTY  OF  FLUIDS
____________________________________

I've always drunk a lot of water anyway, but even after a couple of bottles of that clear liquid, it can get a bit samey and boring. When Waterdrop wanted to send me some diabetic-friendly drinks to try, I couldn't say no! Anything to make drinking water more fun and more flavourful, I'm all for. Waterdrop is a micro drink where they have compressed natural ingredients into a dissolvable cube to pop into your water. These drinks are full of vitamins, are sugar free and contain fruit extracts to make this a real healthy drink. Waterdrop have all kinds of flavours for every taste. All drinks come in three flavours - from mango, cactus fruit and artichoke to blackcurrant, elderflower and acai. Quite a mixture I know!

2) CUTTING  OUT  THE  CHOCOLATE
_______________________________________

Ok, this is part we all sit on the playground and tell each other secrets. Here's my one (and it's a whopper) -

I HAVEN'T EATEN ANY CHOCOLATE SINCE CHRISTMAS DAY
I know, I told you it would have you gasping like you would reading a Fifty Shades book, but it's true! I haven't touched, smelt or even licked a piece of chocolate for well over six weeks now. It's a personal non chocolate eating record for me. I never even made it a goal for me to stop eating Milkybars or Dairy Milk, it just kind of happened. Like dandruff. Dandruff just kinda happens. Anyway, I'm so chuffed with myself for achieving a goal I never planned on creating in the first place!

 3) EXERCISE
______________________________________
This seems like an obvious suggestion when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For me personally, exercise is ever so crucial in my life. Let me explain. Are you say down with a cuppa? (if you're not already, then you're not doing this blog post reading thing right) then I'll begin. To help my lungs get rid of the gunk that lies within them, I need to do a lot of exercise, vigorous exercise, to help shift it. I'm talking treadmills, exercise bikes, rower machines and even sex (as recommended by doctors oddly enough!). I've got a point where I enjoy exercise a lot more than I used to. As long as you keep it varied everyday, it makes you look forward to a workout more!

4) DOING  ALL  OF  MY  MEDS
_______________________________________
Yep, I need to do this or I won't stay alive. Simple as. Not much else to add here.

 5) TRY  NEW  THINGS
_______________________________________
Don't be afraid to try yoga, don't be wary of attending that new exercise class in your local gym, go and buy that kale in Waitrose (even though I don't have a local Waitrose) and step out of your comfort zone! It'll be worth it I promise.

6) DON'T  COMPARE  YOUR  LIFESTYLE  TO  OTHERS
________________________________________
One thing I certainly cannot do is compare my lifestyle with my friends. They're poles apart, purely because of my illness. Two of my friends run half marathons. You'd never see me run for a bus let alone a marathon. Three of my friends have kids, I don't know whether I can have children or not. The point is that you should never compare your lifestyle to others. It doesn't do your mental health and well being any favours. Do whatever makes you happy. Period.

  3. These are all amazing tips - sometimes becoming healthy can start with small things, then move onto larger things. Next thing you know you are making a habit! Waterdrop sounds absolutely amazing - especially the huge variation of flavors!

  4. Inspiring post as always, my lovely! I found out this week that I've actually lost 5lbs so I was pleased with that! Though my mind keeps telling me that I'm 2st heavier. You'll get what I'm feeling! I can't do the gym right now with my anxiety but I love walking! I'm aiming to walk through a teeny bit of the Peak District this summer! Good luck with the snacking! xD

  5. Great advice Lucy. I really like the sound of the waterdrops. I normally drink over 3 litres a day but I am so bored of water! Although I notice the difference if I don't make an effort.

    I think I might give these a go x

  9. I think it's so important to try new things - the best thing I've found is to see if a friend can join you if you're a bit dubious because you can spur each other on and it's a great way to spend time together too. Plus it makes it all so much less scary! Great post and these are some fab tips 😊

    1. Yes I love trying new things! I think the gym would be more fun if a friend was your gym buddy, like you said, you can spur each other on then! x
