How To Make Your Home Feel & Look Cosy for the Autumn & Winter

*In collaboration with Viessmann.

As the nights draw in, we want our home to have that feeling of cosiness and warmth when we're there. Creating that kind of ambience can make any home feel welcoming, not just for yourself, but for visitors too. Not only is it a good idea to create a cosy feel within your home for the colder months, but it's also important to ensure your heating and boilers are up to standard. If you need to replace your boiler before the cold weather kicks in, start by looking at Vitodens boilers on Viessmann to find one that's cost-effective.

Once you have your boiler sorted, it's time to fully focus on giving your home that extra feel of cosiness, ready for the Autumn/Winter months ahead.

Here are the ways to make your home feel and look cosy for the Autumn/Winter:

1) Embrace all the throws, cushions and rugs

Every year, home brands and stores release a new range of Autumn homeware, particularly cushions, throws and rugs. These home accessories add such a cosy feel to any room in the house, especially the living room and bedroom. Swapping lighter Summer fabrics for thick, cosier fabrics can instantly give that cosy feel to your home.

2) Candles, candles and more candles

Whether it's tealights or a huge Yankee-style candle, candlesadd that perfect Autumn/Winter ambience to any home. I tend to buy candles that emit that Autumnal scent to make the house not only feel Autumnal, but smell it also. Once a candle is lit in my house, it's time to snuggle down and watch TV or read for the evening.

3) Enhance the lighting

Besides candles, floor lamps, table lamps and fairy lights create those warm pockets of light in any room in your home. If you want to embrace the natural lighting, use blinds you have in your windows to your advantage and control the amount of lighting streaming through your windows.

4) Incorporate seasonal scents

Pumpkin and cinnamon for Autumn and gingerbread and pine for Winter, create that beautiful scent according to the season we're in. There are different ways to incorporate that seasonal scent into your home:

  • Use dried flowers or potpourri and place them in a bowl in your desired room.
  • Put a pot of water on the stove and add spices like cinnamon sticks and cloves or even orange slices to give your home that scent everywhere.
  • Buy scented candles, wax melts or reed diffusers with that Autumn or Winter scent.
  • Bake. Just simply bake something.

Doing these simple things can add a cosy vibe to anyone's home.

5) Decorate your home with seasonal decor

As well as the cushions, throws and rugs, adding something like an Autumnal wreath on your door and decorating your home for Christmas (not yet!) can really make any home feel cosy and warm to walk into.

6) Create a cosy reading nook

Reading a book is the perfect activity to do during the colder months. There's no better feeling than snuggling down with a good book and relaxing. All you need is a cosy blanket, a drink of your choice, warm pyjamas/loungewear and a comfy chair and a cosy throw to snuggle under.
