Spring Capsule Wardrobe Must-Haves: My Picks

One advantage of having a capsule wardrobe is that you have minimal, classic pieces which are versatile. Once you buy that classic item e.g. a trench coat, you can wear it with multiple outfits and styles. So, building a Spring capsule wardrobe can be easy and not cost-worthy. Most of the items that are essential to have are most likely already hanging in your wardrobe.

Before we delve into what is required for the perfect Spring capsule wardrobe, let's explain what a capsule wardrobe is.

What is a capsule wardrobe? 

 A capsule wardrobe compiling clothes items that complement each other well. These clothes are pieces that are deemed classic, timeless staple pieces. They are pieces that never go out of fashion. A capsule wardrobe allows you to have a versatile wardrobe and create numerous outfits with minimal pieces. 

How do I create a Spring capsule wardrobe?

The key to creating a Spring capsule wardrobe is curating it around pieces you can wear repeatedly and not get bored. The same rule applies for every season, not just Spring. It's like thinking less, but better and not having to spend lots of money. If that makes any sense! 

What pieces belong in a Spring capsule wardrobe?

As I said before, the majority of the essential pieces you need are already hanging up in your wardrobe. It's just about knowing what you have and how to style them for Spring!

Here are the Spring capsule wardrobe must-haves: 

1) The white tee

I'd say many of us already have a white tee in our wardrobe somewhere. One tip I will give is to have two white tees so you can rotate them and not panic about washing the same one every time you wear it. Spring showers guys, they happen unexpectedly sometimes, which means putting the washing out to dry is a risk and a half. The possibilities of how to wear a white tee are endless. Wear it under a trench coat and pair it with jeans or black trousers. 

2) A minimalist tank top

A tank top is timeless and it can make any outfit look chic. A tank top is great for layering and can be worn for any occasion. From going to the office to a casual weekend look, a tank top will get you far in terms of versatile outfits. In terms of what colour tank top to buy, a beige one doesn't go amiss in the Spring.

3) A white shirt

I don't think my wardrobe would be right if I didn't have a white shirt hanging up in there! A white shirt is the most versatile item to own. It just screams classic and sophistication. For Spring, style a white shirt with a pair of black/linen trousers for a more formal look or with straight-leg/bootcut jeans and flats/trainers for a more casual look. Speaking of trainers...

4) A pair of white trainers 

If you're looking for convenience, ease and versatility, then white trainers are the ones for you. For me, I do like wearing a chunkier flatform trainer, especially with wide-leg trousers. There are so many ways to style your white trainers, literally because they're so versatile. 

5) A trench coat

As well as an Autumn staple, a trench coat is a Spring wardrobe must. What I adore about the trench coat is that you can buy it in different lengths. A long trench, a short trench and even a cropped trench. Try a few if you're looking for one to see what suits you most. For a more polished look, wear your trench coat with a pair of black trousers and flats. Wear it with jeans, a white or striped tee and flats or trainers for a more casual ensemble. 

6) A striped tee

I've talked about the white tee, now let's move on to the striped tee. A striped tee is just as versatile and classic as a white tee. You can pretty much style a striped tee as you would a white tee. Play around with outfits and see which you prefer!

7) Black wide-leg trousers

Whether they're formal or linen ones, a pair of wide-leg black trousers is such a Spring wardrobe staple. They create such a flattering silhouette and I adore wearing mine as they make me look taller! One good thing about these kinds of trousers is that they can transition from day to night. 8) Beige trousers

Whatever style of beige trousers, whether it's straight-leg or wide-leg, you definitely need some in your wardrobe this Spring! It's a lovely neutral item to have to hand during Spring and it's perfect for your Spring capsule wardrobe. 

9) Light or mid-wash jeans

I own a pair from New Look which I wear incessantly all year round, not just for Spring! The pair I own are a straight leg and they're great for a casual look. Pair them with a white shirt or white tee, a trench coat and white trainers for a chic Spring look.

10) A black blazer

I do love a black blazer, it's one of the most classic items to have in your closet. Like black wide-leg trousers, a black blazer can be worn for any day or night look. 

11) A black or tan belt

Let's move on to accessories. A black or tan belt is the perfect accessory to add to a pair of trousers or jeans to give that more sophisticated look. I own a few pairs of belts and I love adding that little extra touch to my outfit by wrapping a belt around my trousers or jeans!

12) Beige or black crossbody bag

I do love a crossbody bag. I prefer that style of bag more than anything else. It can work with so many outfits, so please scour the high street or Vinted to find a new crossbody bag for Spring!
