From the age of 18, I never really thought about receiving tons of presents as a priority for Christmas. As for me, I'm someone who loves to give people presents. I love seeing their faces when they open them and (hopefully) love what I've bought them. Sometimes seeing a person's reaction is the best gift of all.
Christmas shouldn't have to be about lavishly spending money on presents or spending lots of money for something that lasts 24 hours. I would rather show gratitude for the things I already have this Christmas. For me, that's the greatest gift of all.
As the title says, it's important to be grateful for the little things at Christmas. But it doesn't just have to be the smallest of things, it can be the biggest of things too. For example, it could be your family and friends, pets, your home, food, water etc. The littlest things could be something like having time off work over the Christmas holidays, the smell of your Christmas dinner cooking, or being able to contribute your culinary skills to the epic meal or the Eastenders Christmas Day episode.
Showing gratitude at Christmas is something I'm aiming to do every festive season from now on. What means more to me at Christmas is spending much-needed and blessed time with loved ones. Helping others out at Christmas, hugging loved ones a little tighter and showing how grateful I am that they're in my life, no matter how long or short I've known them. That's how I want to share my gratitude this Christmas.
When it comes to gratitude, we all show gratitude for different things. And what we're each grateful for at Christmas may differ from each other, and that's ok!
It really is the little things isn't it! I think we allow ourselves the small treats and give ourselves more grace around this year, too!

It really is!
DeleteIt's definitely about the little things. I've not really spent very much on gifts this year. I'd much rather spend money on good food & drinks and have everybody together.

DeleteYes it is about the little things. Getting presents is just the icing at this point. It is about the joy of the holiday: putting up the tree, decorating, the music, all the eating, the old movies and TV shows and of course being with friends and family.
ReplyDeleteA retreat would be nice. But wow so much you describe here I have experienced but not just the environment but everything: the threat of nuclear war, all the WARS. The AI controversy and the fact by 2030 %40 of jobs are going to be lost that is going to lead to a lot instability in parts of the world that are currently stable. I try to meditate once a week this helps a bit.

The holidays should always be about all the things you have mentioned Allie, I'm glad that meditation helps you to deal with what is currently going on in the world right now x
DeleteI think you’ve got to made a conscious effort to slow down at Christmas and be more grateful because it will be over before you know it <3
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! It's so important to take a minute and slow down at Christmas x
DeleteI am grateful for a very productive and successful year. I love your red pyjamas and matching festive socks! :)

I'm glad you have had a very productive and successful year Melanie!
DeleteI love the meaning behind this post. I'm grateful for having a great support system around me, especially this Christmas when I can't even reach to but my shoes on. Being grateful is definitely something I want to instill in baby girl as she grows up.
ReplyDeleteI love that you want to instill gratitude to your baby girl when she's born Kelly, that's so lovely!
DeleteSuch a lovely read! The little things in life but especially at Christmas really do make the biggest difference x
ReplyDeleteThey really do Lea-Mai, the little things in life make the biggest difference, especially at Christmas x
DeleteThis year I'm grateful for my parents. Something I thought I would never say, but it's true. I'm going through some serious health issues and they have offered to help me pay to go private as the doctors are doing nothing but pawning me off / leaving me on waiting lists.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that you are going through some serious health issues lovely. I hope that something gets sorted for you soon and you get the answers you need.
DeleteThis this this!! I feel like it should all start with a grateful heart and a grateful mind!

Absolutely Rosie! We should definitely show a lot of gratitude at this time of year, starting with a grateful heart and grateful mind!
DeleteIt's definitely something you learn to appreciate with age. Plus most people don't need more things when they get older
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Emma, it is something that you appreciate more with age
DeleteWhen I was a kid, presents were a big deal, but as I have gotten older, that has changed. It is nice to pick out thoughtful gifts, but receiving gifts is not a priority. Christmas is more than just presents, so it is good to be grateful for what we have, and I'm especially grateful for being able to spend time with my family over the holidays.
ReplyDeleteThoughtful gifts are the gifts that always mean the most. I agree Christmas is more than just about presents, it's about gratitude as well as spending time with loved ones x
