I know people may be sceptical as to whether there is any point in wearing SPF on the likes of a cold, dreary November day. Like, if it's not a scorching hot day and there's not a chance we will get sunburn! But honestly, wearing SPF all year round has huge benefits not just for our skin, but for our overall physical health.
So, why is it so important to wear SPF all year round? Here are the benefits -
1) It provides protection for your skin
Seems like an obvious benefit, but there are plenty of ways that wearing SPF protection protects your skin from the Sun. SPF prevents hyperpigmentation, keeps your complexion even and protects your skin from the visible signs of ageing...the list goes on.
2) It reduces the risks of skin cancer
Did you know that most sun damage happens before you turn 18? That's quite a scary thought when you think about it. Even more shockingly, did you know that 86% of melanoma cancer cases are preventable? This is why Escentual are running their #SunPoverty campaign once again (which I'm proud to be a part of). Escentual will donate a child-friendly SPF to a child who needs it most when you buy an Escentual, Clarins or Shiseido sunscreen from their website. Such a brilliant initiative from Escentual and a great way to raise awareness of the importance of wearing SPF protection.
3) Prevents sunburn
Yep, that kind of seems the whole point of wearing sunscreen. But even if you're sat in the house, UV rays can penetrate through windows, so it's important to apply sunscreen when you're indoors. This is something which I never used to do, but after discovering that fact, I apply sunscreen every day.
These are some of the important reasons why you should always wear SPF all year round. Also, if you get the chance, please check out Escentual's #SunPoverty campaign, it's such a brilliant initiative which is helping so many children. Educating children at a young age about sunscreen and SPF is important. As I said, the majority of skincare damage from the Sun happens before you reach 18.
I'd love to know your thoughts on Escentual's campaign!

This is a great campaign. I'm sooo sun conscious! I hate being out in the sun and I hate my son being out too. I've been covering him (and me) in factor 50 and only been out a little bit! I have zero interest in getting a sun tan and really regret my younger days when I would sunbath and use sunbeds. I'm usually in the shade now when I go on holiday haha.

I love that you cover yourself and your son in factor 50, it's so important to keep yourselves protected from the Sun! Like you, I like to sit in the shade rather than the sun! x
DeleteSuch a lovely campaign. Sun protection is SO important! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSun protection is so important!
DeleteThat's such a good campaign, and even better that you can personalise the child sunscreen. I was always been scrupulous about applying SPF to Flora when she was younger, and I always nag her about it now!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great touch from Escentual that you can personalise the sunscreen for your child!
DeleteSO IMPORTANT - I really hope this rings with your huge readership!!! I wear SPF everyday, I'm known as the SPF queen in my family, every day this week I've put a message on the group text reminding them all to slather up!

I LOVE that you are known as the SPF queen in your family! I also love that you send a group text to your family reminding them to slather up Rosie! x
DeleteGreat post! And such an important topic. I burnt (stupidly) quite badly earlier on in the month and it's really scared me. It was one of those days where it didn't really feel hot, it was windy in fact, but I just caught the sun like never before. My face was all burnt and tight. It hurt, but it felt really bizarre too - Like I knew I'd damaged my skin. I've been much more careful since, especially with these hot days we've been having. SPF everyday!

That must have been scary that you burned yourself from the Sun like that, it would scare me too! I hope your skin has recovered now lovely. I'm glad you are applying SPF every day now Claire! x
Deletei'm a very fair skinned girly and used to hate it. spf is always necessary. i'm learning to embrace it now. :)

I'm glad you're learning to embrace the importance of SPF!
DeleteI will admit that I am terrible at wearing sunscreen (which is particularly egregious as I am a redhead) so I do make an effort to wear BB creams with SPF (high factors) in them and other stuff to make sure I am protecting myself from sun damage. I needed to read this and make sure everything I use each day is good for this!
ReplyDeleteAs long as you're making an effort in terms of wearing BB creams with SPF in them, that's what counts!
DeleteI think this is a great campaign, and it is so important to wear SPF year round! Also, I didn't realize that it's important to wear sunscreen when inside, so I'll definitely have to start doing that!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Karalee, SPF is so important and it's important that we wear it all year round, not just in the Summer months!
DeleteI am literally that friend that screams at everybody about applying SPF!
ReplyDeleteDanielle | thereluctantblogger.co.uk
I'm that friend too Danielle!
DeleteI'm so bad with SPF! I only ever use it on my body on holiday. Need to find a primer or moisturiser with SPF in it, to get 2 in 1 x
ReplyDeleteThat would be great to get yourself a moisturiser and/or primer with SPF in it!
DeleteI don't use SPF as much as I should, it always seems to bring me out in spots!
ReplyDeleteAww that's frustrating that SPf brings you out in spots Gemma!
DeleteI can't stress this enough! My grandfather was a builder and farmer all his life. Never wore sunscreen. And while his cancer wasn't skin cancer, he did have to have several cancerous moles removed and was told, specially, that it was due to his neglecting sun cream. Yes, even when it's horrible out!
ReplyDeleteThat goes to show how important wearing SPF is, I'm sorry that your grandfather had to go through all of that lovely x
DeleteI'm very much someone who wears SPF 50 due to having such fair skin and I was certainly very grateful for it during my trip to Finland this month.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine it's a life saver for you during these warm months Nikki!
DeleteThanks for sharing this campaign, I to try to wear SPF on my face the whole year around that is in face creams and suncream in the summer, but having it year round might be helpful :)
