My UK Travel Bucket List: An Update

I remember way back in 2019 (feels like a lifetime ago), I wrote a post about the UK places I wanted to travel to in 2020. Well, I don't need to tell you what happened next, do I? Then fast forward to 2022 and I still haven't achieved any of the travel goals I set myself over 2 years ago.

Recently, I bought Hand Luggage Only's Great Britain book, a travel guide to some amazing cities/towns to visit in the UK. After reading it, it's given me a real urge to start travelling solo again and explore different places. As you all well know, Liverpool is my favourite city in the entire world. I've been going back and forth there for the past six years, and not won't ever change. But it would be nice to explore and experience different parts of the UK and see what's out there.

With this in mind, I know that there are still restrictions in place and COVID-19 still plays a heavy part in society today. But I think as long we keep ourselves safe, wear a mask (unless exempt) and all the shizz that keeps us safe, then travelling is something that we need to normalise again.

Anyway, after reading my newest travel book, I've picked out some of the UK destinations I would like to visit, not just in 2022, but beyond that:

1) London

Ok, this one may be weird as everybody has been to London before. I have, but not for years and years. I want to do a few of the touristy type things in London. The London Eye, Madame Tussauds, Windsor Castle, and stand outside Buckingham Palace are just some of the places I would like to visit.

2) Cotswolds

Oh, this is a place that has been on my travel bucket list for long enough. I'm dying to visit Bourton on the Water and other villages in the Cotswolds. The Cotswold is an AONB (area of natural beauty) and it's just so picturesque. Definitely near the top of my UK travel bucket list.

3) Edinburgh

I want to travel to Edinburgh purely based on the rave reviews I have seen/heard everybody say. Edinburgh just seems like such a vibrant city and culture. I went to Scotland on holiday in my teens. My family went to Aviemore in Inverness and I truly didn't appreciate the beauty of Scotland's landscape and views. I remember we visited Loch Lomond and I wish I could have appreciated it more. Back then though, I was more interested in playing with my Nintendo DS.

4) Cambridge

Cambridge looks like a stunning city and I would love to take a boat ride on the River Cam. Kings College Chapel looks amazing and I would love to stroll around there.

5) Oxford

Cambridge's rival in the boat race. Oxford, I only realised until recently, that Oxford is not too far away from the Cotswolds. It's like a 45-minute drive, which is pretty close! Oxford, again, looks like a lovely city and there are quite a few museums worth visiting while there.

6) York

I won't lie guys, I have always been put off from visiting York because it always looks so far away on Google Maps! It looks co charming and York Minster looks so beautiful that it would definitely be worth the visit!

7) Pembrokeshire

I feel ashamed that I haven't visited this place even though it's in my home country. Pembrokeshire is a beautiful town with some beautiful coastal walks. I would love to visit the Blue Lagoon, a recent discovery after reading HLO's book and now it's right up there on the places to visit. Also, I want to visit the other Newport in Wales, the tiny town in Pembrokeshire.

8) Lake District

It should be on everybody's travel bucket list. End of. If it wasn't so far away from where I live, I'd be there every day to just sit by Lake Windermere (if that's possible) and watch the world go by.

If you're thinking of new staycation plans for 2022, I'd definitely buy Hand Luggage Only's Great Britain book. It's such an insightful guide for the UK and the photos in there are incredible and make me want to visit every place in the UK!

I would love to know if any of these UK places are on your travel bucket list, let me know!

  19. I have lived in London for two years now, and for some reason (work maybe?) I haven't traveled too much out of the city. Of course, the pandemic forced us to stay home a lot, but now that we can actually travel, I'd love to visit Edinburgh, Manchester, and the whole Jurassic Coast as soon as I can!!
