I'm no skincare expert by any means, but after reading Caroline Hirons book, I learnt so much and am finally ready to amend my errors and update my skincare routine.
Like I said, they were some lessons I learnt from Caroline's skinCARE book. I love how Caroline addressed some skincare myths, a couple I actually believed and did myself before reading the book!
So, after finishing the book, here's what I learnt from Caroline Hirons skinCARE book:
I need to improve my night skincare routine
I realised that I have been making a few mistakes when it comes to my nighttime skincare routine. Sometimes, I do forget to cleanse at night, which is something I need to get into the habit of doing. My skin needs just as much attention at night as it does at the start of the day!
Stop rubbing product in my hands before applying
OMG, I am mega guilty of this! I always thought rubbing the product into my hands to warm it up was the right thing to do! How wrong was I?! Caroline states that any good formulation is ready to go as soon as you squeeze a drop onto your face. Otherwise, you're just rubbing products into your hands and they're getting the most benefit, not your face. In the book, Caroline explains with a photo demo on how to apply products properly from your hands. The technique I'm mastering as we speak!
I now know how much product I should use per application
I have always been wary of how much product I should use daily. The size of a pea? The size of a 50p coin? Sometimes it is just a guessing game. Thankfully, Caroline displays a collage of photos with how much of each product you should use. Overall, this is such a huge help to me, I don't have to worry if I'm using more or less than what I need!
Do skincare after exercising
Indeed I am someone who does their skincare as soon as they get up in the morning, then exercise afterwards. Oops! Caroline goes into such detail with this section. She goes through different forms of exercise and how to do your skincare around that. This has to be one of my favourite sections of the book. As someone who exercises daily and does different forms of exercise, this was a big help for me.
Skin types/skin conditions are completely different
This seems quite an obvious one that I should know already. But Caroline explains so clearly the difference between skin types and skin conditions. A skin type is the skin you are born in, your genes. A skin condition is what brands should focus on. With a skin condition, it occurs from your lifestyle or a symptom of your skin type. Mind blown. Thanks to this part of the book, I have a better idea of what my skin type is.
I have to add hyaluronic acid to my shopping basket
Caroline writes a section of the skin essentials you need according to your age bracket. After reading my age bracket (20's - mid 30's) I need to not only invest in a hyaluronic acid but an acid toner and antioxidant serum. I'll just start with the hyaluronic acid first.
Sheet masks are the devil
Hallelujah, I'm not the only person who thinks this. As Caroline says, "they're wipes with holes cut out for eyes". I tried my first sheet mask last time I went to Liverpool. However, I wasn't a fan. I kind of felt a little claustrophobic while using it. Plus they're not good for the environment at all. Sheet masks need to disappear and pronto!
To sum up, I absolutely loved this book and as you can read, I have learnt so much from reading it! If you're struggling with how to go about your skincare, buy Caroline Hirons book. It's such a good read, basically, it's a skincare bible. I'll definitely keep going back to it for more tips!

DeleteI received Caroline's book for Christmas last year I think and learnt so much from it and my skin has changed a lot since then. I think I need to dig it out again as I haven't referred to it in a while. Hyaluronic acid is a gamechanger - my skin loves it!
ReplyDeleteTash x
That's good that you're skin has benefitted so much from the advice in the book! x
DeleteAs someone else who hates sheet masks, I'm glad to hear that they aren't actually that good for you. The texture of them really grosses me out and like you say, they're terrible for the environment. I definitely need to get my hands on this book xx

Delete"Rubbing product on your hands first" OH MY GOODNESS - Learnt this from Queer Eye the other day! It's kind of obvious when you think about it but it's one of those things that unless someone teaches you then you don't know.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible with my skincare... I keep trying to be better but just don't know where to start. I have a bottle of cleanser but it lives under the sink and hasn't been used since maybe I did it the first time when I brought it home from the shop. My skin has been extra dry and needs to be taken care of better! Eek!
If you buy this book lovely, I promise you it'll help you get back on track with your skincare as Caroline explains everything so easily
