My Blogging & Social Media Goals For 2021

*Items in this post are previous PR products. Please read the disclosure at the end of the post for more details.

What will blogging be like in 2021 for us? Well, I'm hoping that I won't need to write posts about pillow challenges or lockdown routines this year.

It's hard to believe that it's been an actual calendar year since I last made goals for my blog. Yes, honestly guys, it is 2021. It does still feel like March 2020 some days.

Last year I made a promise to focus more on my blog. I'm pleased that I made that goal for myself and my blog as my blog is in a better place now than it was at the start of 2020. The whole reason I started blogging was to write, not tear myself away from it to worry about the Instagram algorithm and posting at a certain time every day. My blog is my baby and I want it to stay that way.

Now, it wouldn't surprise me that at this time of year, there will be a handful of bloggers who will be writing their blogging and social media goals for 2021. Sorry guys, I'm going to be one of those bloggers. If this ain't your thing, go and have a browse at my last post. However, if you are sticking around for this one (hurrah!) then here they are, here's my blogging and social media goals for 2021 -

1)  MOVE  TO  WORDPRESS  AND  GO  SELF  HOSTED
___________
Hmm, this is something I would like to get done this year. However, it makes me feel quite nervy about making the jump over to WordPress. I've never attempted to use it before and I don't know if I'll be able to get along with it! Also the financial side of things make me a little wary too. Self hosting isn't exactly cheap and it's certainly not cheap to renew every year! But yes, I think this is will be one of those things where I'll just have to bite the bullet and go for it!

2) POST  MORE  QUALITY  THAN  QUANTITY
___________
I made this goal for myself last year, or the year before. But I kind of slipped into the habit of sticking to a schedule again. This is something I want to rectify and kind of slip into the habit of not posting to a schedule invented by yours truly. Lesson learnt kids, don't force content. It never ends well.

3) PAY  MORE  ATTENTION  TO  LINKEDIN  &  FACEBOOK
___________
I've already made a head start on this goal, but it's definitely one I'm determined to continue with this year. For about 3/4 of this year, I kind of neglected my LinkedIn and Facebook pages. Honestly guys, I just forgot about them. Near the end of 2020, I had mysteriously grown a slight obsession with LinkedIn and loved discovering new people and I loved finding out which companies were looking at my profile and what profession they were hoping I did. Unfortunately, I'm no engineer or data analyst. I could never be that skilled. In terms of my Facebook page, I want to post more on my page that isn't just new blog posts. Maybe older blog posts, questions to ask to my followers etc.

4) DON'T  AGONISE  OVER  INSTAGRAM
___________
2021 is the year I'm going to say a massive f*ck you to the algorithm and not give a flying sh*t about engagement and just post whatever and whenever the hell I want. Mind you, that's not quite so easy to do. If 2020 has taught us anything is that life is too short to be worrying about whether to post at 12 or 6pm. I made the decision near the end of last year to cut back on how much I post during the week. I'm so happy that I did because I'm enjoying Instagram more than ever now, despite the stupid algorithm.

5) KEEP  WORKING  ON  PINTEREST
___________
I think Pinterest got a little jealous of Instagram stealing the show with the algorithm and decided to join the platform by applying an algorithm to their own platform. Pinterest was something I enjoyed for a while last year, but now that feels like a chore to get the posting time right. But it's something I'm keen to keep working on 2021.

6) DO  MORE  OUTDOOR  PHOTOGRAPHY
___________
Obviously this goal is pandemic dependant and when I get my vaccine dependant too. But I would love to step away from my lovely bedroom and be a little more adventurous. Yes, I want to be more adventurous people! I've posed in so many different positions in my bedroom for blogging/Instagram photo purposes during the lockdown that I'm very quickly running out of ideas. This one may not be able to happen until the middle of the year, but it's something I'm eager to do.

7) RETWEET  MORE  PREVIOUS  BLOG  POSTS
___________
Yep, I've definitely slacked on this one in 2020. You'd think I'd be on top of it when there's been f*ck all else for me to do in the last 12 months!  But yeah, I need to get my older posts back on Twitter again for this year!

There you have it, my blogging and social media goals for 2021. I hope I can achieve all these (or most of them) and hopefully I can set myself a completely new set of goals for 2022!

What are your blogging/social media goals for 2021? Let me know!

  1. These are some fab goals! When I moved to WordPress last year I went with Bluehost and paid for 3 years on their join up deal which was so cheap in comparison to other options! They've also been an absolute godsend to work with.

I'm so excited to see where your blog takes you this year x

    1. Aww thanks for the advice Kayleigh, I'll keep Bluehost in mind!
Thank you so much lovely, I'm looking forward to reading your content for 2021 as always! x

    2. I'm glad other people have had good experiences with Bluehost, but I've found their customer service to be pretty dismal. Personally as soon as my 3 year hosting plan with them is up I'm moving somewhere else - anywhere else! They are cheap though, so that's something.

    3. That's such a shame that you have found Bluehost's customer service bad Laura!

  2. Go on girl! I love these ones, especially quality over quantity. I think sometimes we stress ourselves out too much with trying to put loads of content out there and then the quality of it comprises!

  3. I am getting increasingly annoyed at the cost of my self hosted website each year going up but I do think it allows you to have a bit more control and personalisation of your website! I'm taking something forward I did last year which was not to have too much pressure on uploading blog posts a certain amount of times throughout the week, I want this to be something I enjoy! xx

    1. Yeah there are definitely pros and cons in going self hosted, but knowing that you have more control and personalisation over your blog is definitely worth all the money and hassle!
I'm glad that you're going to take things back and not put pressure on yourself to post to a certain schedule, I bet that will help you so much! xx

  7. I'd like to go self-hosted too this year, but my current plan doesn't end until October so I have plenty of time to do my research. Pinterest just doesn't work for me anymore, I create pins and get no impressions, it's so time consuming too!

  8. Brilliant goals Lucy. I am excited to see what you come up with for your pictures because you already take such lovely photographs.

I made the move to wordpress from Blogger and it was so much better. It will take time but it will be worth it. Plus you can get a plugin that will post your previous posts to social media! Win win either way!

Good luck with your goals, I look forward to seeing you smash them x x

  14. You’ve got some great goals Lucy. I use WordPress and I honestly love it, so hopefully you’ll get along with it if you make the move. I totally know what you mean about Instagram. I also love blogging for the writing and find Instagram can be a bit of a chore. The algorithm seems to change regularly and it’s difficult to keep up. I’ve definitely taken a more laidback approach to it now. Twitter is my favourite social platform as it brings more traffic and it’s easier to connect and engage with others. Good luck with all your goals, I’m sure you’ll do amazing xx

I'm enjoying my blog more too than other social media - I don't use twitter as much as I should although I do like Instagram for outfit inspo as I follow a lot of Aussie ladies and mums there who don't have blogs. My blog is where I'm happiest though :)
