How I've Gained New Inspiration From A Camera

I've always said in the past that I would always rely and trust my iPhone to be in charge of my photography for my blog and Instagram content. Well...I kind of cheated on my iPhone and bought a camera. A Canon G7 Mark II to be exact.

I've always struggled with my photography in the past, I'm constantly relying on Pinterest to give me photo inspo on a daily basis as my brain is completely devoid of any creativity. Well, in the photography department anyway. Is there an area of your brain for that?

How I've Gained New Inspiration From A Camera

Anyway, I drove to Curry's one Tuesday afternoon and picked up the camera order I made online the night before.

I have a confession to make - I'm a camera virgin. I remember my parents owning a digital camera when I was a kid, my Dad used to let me to take of it sometimes when we walked around Magic Kingdom or Universal Studios in Florida, but that was about it. That was about 15 years ago. Technology and cameras have changed a hell of a lot since then.

As you can imagine, when I first started capturing photo's on this new camera, it took a while to get used to. I've owned it for a couple of weeks now - and I'm just about started to get used to it. The pictures are so clear and in a way, precise. Don't get me wrong, an iPhone camera does the job and has a cracking camera built in too! I wouldn't want to influence people, particularly blogger's, into thinking that they need to spend an extortionate amount of money when they don't want or need to. Buying this was my choice.

How I've Gained New Inspiration From A Camera

Since I have had this new little piece of digital photographic machinery, I don't know what's overcome me - I feel a sense of photo inspiration which I haven't felt before! This feeling is still all new, I don't know how long it will last, but my god I hope it stays with me for a long time yet! My brain seems to have given the creativity side of my brain a little spritz, dazzle and kick up the bum it needed!

When shooting blog or Instagram content, I always kind of felt this little bit of fear and dread. Not for taking the photo's as such, but worrying it wasn't good enough. Hopefully some blogger's can relate to this - you know when you write a banging blog post, you want the best photo's for it, then when it comes to shooting, it doesn't seem to work out right. Yeah, we all know that feeling. First world problems. However, that feeling of dread has seemed to all but disappear, which I'm so chuffed about.

How I've Gained New Inspiration From A Camera

Before I sign off this post, I need to say a little thank you to something. My iPhone camera.

I will still use my phone to do photography, mainly when I'm out and about. Otherwise, this camera will be my go to for photo's from now on. I'm sorry iPhone. I want to thank you for your services, you have been incredible. You've got me through some tough photography times. Remember the first flatlay I ever took? Jeez, the embarrassment you must have felt having to store that set of photo's in your photo album. But you've also taken some absolute beauts in your time. From my selfies with the Liverpool team at Melwood, to all of my 'out out' nights with my besties. You've been the best. I salute you.

  1. Enjoyed this post! I don't have a camera either. I take all my personal and Instagram pictures on my phone, and for my blog I usually use stock photos. Your camera looks so nice and I hope you get a lot of use out of it!

  4. It's great that a new camera has given you a creativity boost but honestly I'm in awe of anyone who can manage to get their blog photos on their phone because mine are always rubbish if I try, it's a different kind of skill for sure 😂 x

  5. I’m looking for a new camera currently and this was very helpful to read. I had a great Nikon camera that I sold a couple years ago when I was in a pinch, since then I’ve been using my phone. It’s such a struggle to get good photos and I miss out on lots of great shots at events. I’m definitely going to consider getting a Canon this time around. (Dgspeaks.com)

  6. Love this and your camera sounds fantastic.

I've been trying to improve my photography skills in recent weeks and have been using my camera a lot in order to do so. I'm loving the content I've been able to create so far as a result and the impact it's had on my Instagram following is recognizable too.

Wishing you all the best on your photography journey!

  8. Great post, I take most of all my blog photo's on my camera, as my phone and I pad are of less quality or use stock photo's. Having a good camera does help :)

  9. I used my phone for photos for the first year or so of my blogging journey before buying an Olympus pen and that camera gave me SUCH a boost and has improved my creativity in more ways than I could have ever imagined! Seeing comparison photos is actually mind blowing. I've heard so many good things about the G7x and cannot wait to see what you do with it!

  19. I loved this post. Phone cameras are so good these days that you don't always need to spend a lot of money on a camera unless its something you want to. I do photography as a sideline so I'm lucky enough to have been able to have a camera for my whole blogging journey.
