"It'll be lonely this Christmas, without you to hold"
Ok, before I start necking down the mulled wine and scoffing all the Quality Street tin chocolates, let's be real here - being single at Christmas can kind of suck sometimes. Maybe because there is one less present to open under the tree. It's always nice to cwtch up to someone at Christmas, watch cheesy festive films over a hot chocolate and just flake out on the settee. Waking up together on Christmas morning and opening your presents by the tree. Maybe even going for winter walks through the park. Right, that's it, where's the vodka? Someone please pass me the Smirnoff!
Before I start getting maudlin and imagine myself becoming a nun and joining a convent, let's think of the pro's of being single during the festivities! There are some, I assure you -
Before I start getting maudlin and imagine myself becoming a nun and joining a convent, let's think of the pro's of being single during the festivities! There are some, I assure you -
1) IT'S CHEAPER FOR YOU
One less present to buy for. And not just presents. Your bank account will be joyous, no spending extra money on outfits, meals and all the niceties that you have to splurge on to treat your fella. Also you won't have to annoy that other shopper who is after the same Hugo Boss aftershave as you for her boyfriend. You also ease yourself of the pressure of thinking agonisingly about the most, perfect, meaningful, thoughtful, lovey dovey present to buy for your other half.
2) NO SHARING FOOD
One less pig in blanket and mince pie to share at the dinner table, that calls for a celebration surely?! Yep, I'm not one for sharing food.
3) YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHAVE YOUR LEGS
Now, I'm not saying that you need to shave them when you're in a relationship or not, let them be as hairy as a lion's if you wish, but it's nice not worrying about cutting your legs with your new Venus razor or going through the agonising pain of a wax to get your legs Christmas ready.
4) NO AWKWARD SOCIAL SITUATIONS
Imagine going to your other half's friend's Christmas party and not knowing a single person. Awks. Obviously you can make small talk to the party goers about the weather, their Christmas plans or how they like their eggs cooked, but sometime it isn't for everyone. If you're like me, I'd rather curl up on the sofa and watch Muppet Christmas Carol with a bowl of Gregg's Pigs in Blankets.
5) NOT WORRYING ABOUT WHETHER TO BUY YOUR OTHER HALF'S FAMILY PRESENTS OR NOT
Do I or don't I? When you're single, there won't be any need for the struggle. But if you're in a relationship, whatever you do, don't buy a Lynx or Dove set. Unless they like that stuff. Also, nothing against Dove or Lynx as a brand.
Ok, there are other reasons why, but I would just list the main ones from my perspective!
Let me know if you can name other reasons in the comments!
This was a funny post! Even though I do have a boyfriend I totally get the points you made. I would be so much cheaper if I didn’t have to buy my boyfriend present! I’d keep the money and treat myself! X
ReplyDeleteThank you Aaliyah, I'm glad you enjoyed the post! xx
DeleteThis was such a funny way of sharing this! But I totally agree. It definitely saves money and I'm very happy to avoid those awkward social situations and have the choice to hermit over the Christmas period if I want to x

I'm glad you agree with me too Sophie! x
DeleteHaving more time to spend with your own family and friends is always a plus and not to mention avoiding the gifting stress! Merry Christmas xx www.joyofblogs.com
ReplyDeleteExactly! xx
DeleteHah - you make some very good points!! My husband and I (luckily) get on very well with each other's family, but having to try and see both sides over Christmas can be stressful for sure! Also, feel you on the leg shaving, haha. I 100% can't find the time for that kind of nonsense at Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThat's good that you get on with each other's families Laura! Haha leg shaving feels like a chore!
DeleteI love this post and you’re right! Trying to fit everything is stressful and buying gifts for your boyfriend can definitely add up.
ReplyDeleteHaha I'm glad you can agree Natalie!
