The Must-Have Summer Capsule Wardrobe Essentials

(AD | Aff) In previous Summers, I used to buy a heap-load of Summer dresses and floral tops to wear over the warmer months. Often, they would be worn a couple of times and then tossed aside before the following Summer. Nowadays, I'm all for a Summer capsule wardrobe and barely have any floral-print pieces. 

My aim with a Summer wardrobe is to be minimalistic and have items that can keep me cool throughout the heat. I want to wear items that make me feel good and not leave me in a puddle of sweat. Obviously, everyone reaches for shorts, dresses and swimwear during the warmer weather. But these pieces I will mention can be worn when the heat is bearable. Some pieces you will wear on your holidays, some you will wear if you're sitting in the beer garden sipping vodka and cranberry juice (like I will be).

Here are the pieces I'll have to hand in my Summer capsule wardrobe:

1) Shorts

Starting with the obvious here I know. Whether denim, linen or tailored, shorts are the ultimate item of clothing to reach for in the Summer. Shorts can be styled in many ways, whether dressed up or down. If you're styling shorts, wear them with a loose-fitting white shirt, a neutral tee/tank or a waistcoat. If you're feeling daring, add a swimsuit. I've seen some wear swimsuits and shorts for everyday wear and they look so chic and stylish!

2) Slides

I'd be lost without my slides during the Summer. I stick to three colours for slides - black, white and tan. And my Chloe Woody sandals. Sandals look good with nearly any outfit you wear during Summer. 

3) A sundress

Everyone needs to have a sundress that makes them feel great. I love to have a Summer dress or two that I can quickly throw on when I'm in a rush or cannot decide what to wear! Summer dresses can be worn with slides or white trainers. Speaking of trainers...

4) White trainers

Plain white trainers are an absolute must for Spring and Summer. They can be paired with a simple vest and shorts or a sundress. I wear white trainers often during the warmer months, especially if I'm going for a walk on the beach etc!

5) Linen blazer

A linen blazer is something I need to get myself for this Summer. This is a great staple to have over the Summer. I would pair it with a tee/vest, denim shorts and slides or trainers. It's also great to throw over when there's a chilly Summer breeze. As I live in the UK, that will likely happen.

6) Straw bag

Whether it's a day at the beach or a stroll around town, a straw bag is the perfect accessory for Summer. Recently, I bought a Mango straw bag from Vinted and I know it'll be THE bag of the Summer for me.

7) Tan belt

There are so many tan belts on the market at the moment, they're a great accessory to add to shorts or linen trousers.

8) Sunglasses

Sunnies are always needed in Summer! Ok, I know British weather is temperamental, but you're always going to need sunglasses! There are so many different styles and frames to choose from, have a good look around!

9) Neutral tees/vests

Black, white, beige or striped tees come in handy for Summer for me. Easy to throw with a pair of shorts, skirt, jeans or linen trousers. The simplest of tees can really elevate a look to make it chic.

10) White jeans

I love wearing white jeans in the Summer, even if it does pose the risk of stainage. I like to wear my straight-leg jeans as they're so flattering and chic. But a wide-leg pair wouldn't go amiss either! If you don't fancy wearing white jeans, a pair of blue jeans is also a must for any Summer wardrobe.

If you have most of these in your wardrobe, your Summer capsule wardrobe is sorted. These items are minimalistic and can be styled with multiple outfits. There will be days when you will only want to wear your swimsuit or even starfish on the bed in the nude on hot days, but please have these pieces to hand when the heat is bearable!
