Let's set the scene...
The story follows Rosie Graham, an engineer who has quit her job to become a romance writer. She's written and published her debut novel, but is now struggling with writer's block for her second book. While her best friend Lina is on her honeymoon, Rosie stays at Lina's apartment after a ceiling collapses at her place. Lina doesn't think to mention that her Spanish cousin, Lucas Martin, is turning up to stay at the apartment after Lina lent it to him while he's travelling.
However, Rosie has been "stalking" (for lack of a better word) Lucas through his social media for months before this "arrangement". After getting to know each other, Lucas offers to let Rosie stay and become roommates while Rosie's apartment is being fixed.
When Lucas finds out about her writer's block and her impending deadline, Lucas suggests they go on 'experimental dates' to jumpstart her romantic inspiration. However, Lucas is only in New York for six weeks, which may not be enough time for her or her deadline.
What are your thoughts on The American Roommate Experiment?
As I said, I loved Elena Armas' last book, and this was no different. This was such a relaxing and heartwarming read. There wasn't too much drama and the book had a lovely flow. I love the slow burn of this book and Elena Armas does that extremely well.
I love the main characters Rosie and Lucas, both are loveable and kind-hearted. You can definitely feel the chemistry between them from the get-go. Rosie reminds me of myself with the way she talks to her crush - she struggles to get her words out and can't string a sentence together.
Seeing how Rosie lusted after Lucas before she met him is something that we can all relate to. Looking at your crush's photos online and wondering what they will be like when you meet them.
Lucas is very kind, caring and kind-hearted. He doesn't feel worthy of Rosie and it was nice to see that character development. With Rosie, it was great to see her character development in terms of confidence and energy growth throughout the book.
Also, with Lucas speaking Spanish in some parts really was lovely to read (especially if you are familiar with the Spanish language!).
Would you recommend The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas?

ReplyDeleteThank you lovely, this book is definitely a beach-worthy read!
DeleteThis seems like a really nice read! I like a good slow-burn romance! It’s funny because I believe I think of life too much like a romance novel. lol. I keep thinking something like in these books or movies might happen to me one day and I’ll meet Mr. Right the same way these heroines met their men. Life doesn’t really work that way, but you never know! lol. Thankyou for this cute post!
ReplyDeleteI like a good slow-burn romance too! I'm the same, I'd love my love life to have a happy ever after like the romance books, but it'll never happen!
DeleteI haven't read anything from this author but it sounds like a lovely book to read whilst relaxing by the pool.

DeleteI actually got this book for my birthday in May so I've not read too much of your review in case of spoilers - but what I've seen means I am going to love it!
