Six Reasons Why I Love Blogging & Always Will

I've been officially blogging now for six years. Happy 6th birthday to Lucy Mary (it's ok, we don't need to sing the whole verse of Happy Birthday). I seriously cannot believe it's been that long since I published my first post (which is now in the archives). It's been a great first six years of blogging. There have been more ups than downs in my blogging journey (soz for the cliche). Starting this blog is one of the best decisions I've made and I'm so thankful to myself that I did.

Blogging has opened many doors for me and has given me a lot of opportunities to grow creatively and learn. Whether I will be doing this for another six years remains to be seen, but I really hope so! I know others say that blogging is a dying hobby/side hustle, but I do hope it keeps evolving and growing.

So, I've now been blogging for six years, I thought I'd share the six reasons why I love blogging and always will! -

1) It's given me opportunities

Like I said a minute ago, being able to work with different brands and my favourite brands has been incredible. I feel so lucky and honoured to have brands reach out to me to collaborate with them. In a way, it feels like a huge responsibility to create content that the brand will be happy with. It's a pressure but one I do enjoy as I want to create the best content I can! Because of blogging, I've written for two magazine-style websites, which is definitely a great addition to my CV!

2) Being able to express freely through creativity

In school, I was never what you call creatively gifted in terms of art or anything creative-related. I couldn't draw for shit, I was never good at writing poetry and I could never make up a dance routine for PE lessons. When it came to writing in school, that's when I could really show off my creative writing. Writing stories or passages really started my love for writing. Blogging and blog posts have been an amazing way to continue my passion for writing.
When I started blogging, I picked up the skill of photography. Learning how to get the best out of photographs in terms of editing, shooting, styling etc has been a real learning curve. It's something I have really enjoyed, especially when I bought my first camera back in 2020.

3) Chatting/meeting other bloggers like myself

Blogging has allowed me to talk to other bloggers online and even meet some in person. I haven't attended many blogging events in my time in blogging, but when I have, to be able to talk to other like-minded bloggers is so refreshing. Being able to talk about a hobby/passion to someone who likes blogging as much as I do is just so nice. The blogging community is one of the nicest communities on social media - a community I'm proud to be a part of. The amount of talented bloggers that exist is just off the scale and bloggers always inspire me to better myself!

4) Being able to share my thoughts online

I love sharing my opinions (to some degree) and being able to channel my thoughts into my blog posts is invigorating. Obviously, not everyone is going to agree with you, but I like that blogging can start a conversation. I like talking about subjects such as mental health, CF etc with others and knowing what others' opinions are.

5) Having my own little piece of the Internet

This is one of my favourite reasons I love about blogging - having that little piece of the Internet is just great! My blog may only take up the tiniest space on the Internet, but it's so nice to know I have a website/blog of my own online.

6) I just love it!

This blog is like a second job to me and I really don't mind - I just love it! All these reasons are the reasons I keep blogging today. There are some days when I have writer's block, creative ruts and loss of motivation, but even those negative days help me to learn. I hope that my blog does improve even more and I hope Lucy Mary continues for years to come!

If you're a blogger, what is the main reason you love blogging? Let me know!

  5. This this this!! I've been out of the loop a little while but was so excited to come back. Since coming back, the mood in the blogging community is very quiet and subdued, many people have said to me that blogging is dead but I could not disagree more!! I love blogging, my blog is a part of me, it's helped me carve my career and I don't know who I'd be without it. Thank you for writing and sharing this, I hope people read it and feel the same as I do!
