I Took A Mini Break From Blogging and I'm Happy Again

I've been blogging for nearly three years no (how time flies) and I recently I realised that I have not had one single break from it. Three years of not putting my laptop down, not constantly thinking of new innovative ideas to improve my blog or not trying in vain to shoot some banging pictures for my blog posts.

The last couple of posts I've written and published on Lucy Mary were already sat in my drafts waiting to be posted. All I had to do was insert some okayish photo's before hitting the publish button. So in retrospect I haven't really written or created new content for almost a month now. My brain just went flat. I felt very uninspired and I just lost the spark for blogging. I knew that was a tell tale sign that I needed a much needed break from the blogging world.

I Took A Mini Break From Blogging and I'm Happy Again

During my mini break, I have still kept reading other blogger's posts in the hope that that my creative rut would come to an end.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's back to business for me and I couldn't be happier!

Having a break from it all has done my creativity and wellbeing wonders. To just step away from it all for a wee while really has helped me personally, as well as mentally and creatively.

I've seen blogger's in the past say they have resorted to taking some respite from blogging from time to time. I was never really convinced that a break from blogging would really work for me. I felt like I would be letting people down if I wasn't producing new content on a weekly basis. I looked at last year's posts and I seen that I wrote a whopping 150 posts in 2018. Christ almighty, if I didn't take a blogging break back then I certainly needed one now!

However, I'm frigging proud to say that I was proved wrong in regards to blog breaks. To just take myself away and out from the blogosphere for a mini hiatus has been so beneficent for me. I've been able to refill my creative juices and give my brain a proper recharge.

For blogger's who are sceptical about taking a blogging break, I would highly recommend it. To be honest, you'll know when the time is right to put your laptop screen down, hide the pen and paper and log out of Wordpress/Blogger.

Don't feel you have to continually be creative because honestly, you can't. Even Picasso must have got fed up with the sight of paint and needed to lock his paintbrushes away in the cupboard.

To sum up, all I need to say that Lucy Mary is back up and running again and I couldn't be more frigging ecstatic about it!

  1. Glad to know that you're feeling better and happy after taking a break from blogging! I wish I had the consistency to post just like yours, though. I don't blog on a weekly basis, and I think my latest post was published in June... I really should work on it more!><

  4. Sometime we need to have that time away to really get ourselves in the creative space again and to refocus what we want. I think regular breaks are a great way to keep the creative juices flowing.

  5. Great post! I actually took a little break from writing for about 2 weeks this month. This time last year I wrote a blog post about why we shouldn't feel the need to apologise when we take a break from blogging so it's interesting to see that I took a break at the same time this year! Maybe October just isn't the best blogging month for me haha. x

  6. I’ve only taken maybe one of two breaks since starting my blog and it definitely helps. Whenever I’m totally lost with what to write about I just put the laptop down and stop thinking about blogging then usually it just comes to me! X

  9. Good for you for taking a blogging break! I take them occasionally and they've been SUCH a relief! And girl, 150 post in 2018??? That must be a RECORD or something! I don't even think I could FIND 150 separate blogging ideas if I had 6 months, let alone a year. You deserved that break and I'm glad it helped you and got your creative blogging juices flowing again. I can't wait to see what other blog posts you have in store for us! :) Welcome back!

  10. Sounds like it was just the thing you needed. Its also great that you were organised enough to have a couple of posts in the bag and I think I need to do that. I try to post every week, sometimes once othertimes two or three times in one week. Really I should do a schedule and keep any extra back for when I need a blogging break. Thanks for letting the blogging community know its ok to take a break every once in a while!

    1. Yeah I like to keep a couple of draft posts on standby in case I need to take a break from blogging and writing in general. I wanted to let blogger's know that it is completely fine to take a break from it all, actually it can be more beneficial to yourself than just carrying on with it!

  12. I've been having similar issues lately in that I've had no motivation and I've just generally been feeling a bit fed up and frustrated with blogging. I've been coming home most nights and getting to work straight away on my blog and I felt as if I had no time anymore - I ended up having Monday night completely free of any blogging tasks and even then I felt so much better when I got back to it the next day. If it happens again I think I definitely won't think twice about taking a mini-break from blogging, if it means I come back raring to go and feeling more positive then I'm all for it! :) x
