CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask: An Honest Review

*This post contains PR items from CurrentBody. Please see the end of the post for more details.

Over the years, we have all seen so many beauty devices advertised as the next big thing, the beauty device we supposedly need. Let's talk about one of them. It's the device that has graced our social media timelines for quite a while now. It's been deemed the most innovative LED therapy face mask on the market. Let's talk about the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask.

A CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Mask.

First things first, what is LED Light therapy?

LED Light Therapy or Red Light Therapy is a non-invasive and painless skincare treatment that helps to promote collagen, even skin tone and brighten the skin. It also has anti-ageing benefits and helps to reduce inflammation. Red Light therapy is safe and is FDA-approved.

Who are CurrentBody?

CurrentBody is an advanced skincare device brand that has revolutionised skincare routines since it was founded over 15 years ago. CurrentBody collaborates with doctors, world-renowned dermatologists, aestheticians and biological science university faculties to ensure their skincare products and devices are safe to use.

What devices does CurrentBody sell on its website?

CurrentBody sells different devices for different skincare issues such as anti-ageing, acne/spots, rosacea and hyperpigmentation. They also produce innovative skincare devices for facial toning, anti-ageing and laser hair removal. Also, the brand sells a teeth-whitening device, face masks, serums and a hair growth helmet. Whatever your issue, CurrentBody is bound to have a device to help improve your problem!

What CurrentBody device have you been trying?

Let's give a rundown analysis of the device:

What is the device's aim?

The device's aim is to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, calm redness and smooth the skins texture. It also aims to give the skin a healthier, brighter and smoother complexion.

What is the job of the LED lights?

The mask contains 132 LED bulbs that emit two of the most clinically recognised wavelengths for anti-ageing - red and near-infrared. So, according to my maths, that's 66 of each, that's right, isn't it?
These lights penetrate about 4mm into the skin to reach the deepest layers. The 'Red' light helps to wake up the skin's collagen production, which in turn helps to reduce the signs of ageing. The 'Near-Infrared' energises the skin cells deep below your skin, resulting in a firmer and brighter complexion.

What comes in the box?

The box contains the LED Light Therapy Mask, a USB-C charging cable, a user manual, comfort goggles, a controller, a strap and a travel pouch.

How do I use the mask?

Before using the mask properly, you MUST do a sensitivity test. All instructions on how to do this are in the user manual.

If and/or when you pass the sensitivity test, here is how you use the LED Light Therapy Face Mask:

1) Cleanse your skin and pat dry.
2) Attach the mask to your face with the help of the black strap. The strap has a velcro back which keeps the mask in place.
3) Connect the controller to the device (very easy to do), then turn on the device with the controller.
4) Kick up and relax for 10 minutes while the device does its magic! The device will switch itself off after 10 minutes.

Does the mask hurt while in use?

Absolutely not! The device is perfectly safe and painless to use. It doesn't generate any heat and it should feel comfortable throughout.

How often do I need to use it to get the best results?

In order to get the optimum results, the device should be used consistently. It's recommended that the mask be used 3-5 times a week for the full 10 minutes. You will see results after the first 4 weeks of use.

How much does the mask cost?

CurrentBody sells the mask for £299.

What are your thoughts after using the LED Light Therapy Mask for 4 weeks?

Rather than give a long paragraph of my thoughts, let's split it into a pros and cons list:

Pros

  • Time efficient. It only takes 10 minutes.
  • It's super easy to use.
  • It has a rechargeable battery so you don't need to be sat near a plug to use the mask.
  • It's FDA-cleared.
  • I've started seeing results already!
  • Feels comfortable to wear (without the protective eye goggles)
  • Great battery life.

Cons

  • I found the light to be overbearing. The eye goggles help a little though.
  • The price.
  • It has to be used consistently to get the best results.
  • The strap sometimes slips down.
  • It does feel uncomfortable to wear if you wear the eye goggles with it, it feels too tight around the eyes and puts pressure on them.

Here's my little summary:

The mask has definitely made an improvement to my skin's overall texture and complexion. I have seen a great improvement in the dark circles under my eyes. I've had a lot of compliments about my skin lately, and that's all thanks to the mask! I promise I will upload before and after photos soon!

I love how easy and quick the device is to use. Just plug it in and away I go! I also love that the controller is rechargeable and you don't have to be near a plug to use the mask. The travel pouch is a great addition as you can take it anywhere with you around the world (I think). The batter is long-lasting so you won't need to worry about it running out of juice when you're away!

BUT...

As I said, the light, for my personal taste, is a little overbearing. It's like it's THERE, if that makes sense. I don't know how people can do things like scroll through their phone or even do chores while using it! I'm glad it comes with the protective eye goggles, but for me, they don't make much of a difference. And the mask isn't comfortable when I wear the goggles. After attaching the mask with the strap, the goggles then put pressure on my eye sockets, which in turn makes the mask slide down, which is a pain.

So instead of walking around doing things while I use the mask, I lie down in bed and just close my eyes and relax. I am getting used to the glaring lights slowly but surely, but I knew it would take a little time to get used to!

The mask, for me, is more comfortable to wear without the goggles.

Also, the price may not be everyone's cup of tea. It's worth the investment if you are going to be consistent with it. This device has received rave reviews since it was released, so it may be worth the money on that alone. Plus, the device is worth the money as it would cost more to have Red Light therapy done in a cosmetic salon. Read on to see a discount code!...

Would you recommend the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask?

Yes, I would! I know I did talk about the light being a little overbearing, but that's just my personal opinion. You may not see it that way if you used it! I can't vouch for the effect of it reducing wrinkles, but what I can vouch for is the glow it's given my skin. I know that if I keep using it consistently, I will see even better results in the future!

This mask has given my skincare routine an upgrade, something I am all for!

  1. Oh my gosh! I need this mask in my life. I've been looking into light therapy for skin and really want to try it. Such a shame about the light being overbearing though.

    1. It's an amazing mask and I love the difference it has made to my skin already! It is a shame about the light, but it is something I am getting used to, so don't let that put you off too much!

  2. I love the idea of this. I really like that it's so quick. I've been going for monthly facials and part of the session is 30 mins under an LED light, which is a little too long for me, I get quite fidgety after 15/20 mins. This sounds ideal. And I love that you've been seeing results already. That's amazing. Such a cool collaboration! Well done! X

    1. One of the great advantages of this mask is how quick it is to use - 10 minutes and it's done! If you get fidgety after 15/20 minutes of going to the salon for LED treatment, this is ideal for you Claire!
Thank you so much lovely! x

  8. This is unlikely something that I would try, but it does sound like a fairly easy at-home option to try out for those who do. I think I would find the light too much as well, and struggle to have any pressure around my eyes. Thanks for the honest review!
