Ty Mawr Pub - A Review Of The Recently Refurbished Pub In Cardiff

*This post is about a PR invite to the Ty Mawr pub. Please see the end of the post for more details.

When I go out to eat, the kind of place I would opt for first is a pub. I do love pub grub, there's no better feeling than filling your boots with good platefuls of food. Recently, I got invited to the Ty Mawr pub in Cardiff after they had newly refurbished the place. I couldn't turn down the offer of eating in a beautiful country pub with some great food on the menu!

I took one of my best friends so we could have a good gossip and look around at the Ty Mawr and its new interior look. The newly renovated interior looks amazing. The pub has still got its country pub vibe with the exposed beams, original open fireplaces and exposed stonework. The chairs, tables and pictures have that modern take which really blends well with the country feel.

The Ty Mawr also has an area downstairs called The Barn, which is a perfect room to hire for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays etc. The Barn has its own bar, as well as outdoor seating with hanging lights. You will also have a good view of the Severn Estuary if you choose to sit outdoors in the Spring/Summer in the large garden.

As we sat down at our table, we were offered drinks and the staff were ever so friendly and approachable. They were more than happy to answer any questions and were eager to tell us all about the place and its history. For the life of me, I could not decide what to have as there were too many delicious meals on the menu. There were so many different options, including vegetarian and vegan. There are also plenty of options for those with allergies.

After deliberating what to have, I chose the prawn cocktail to start. It came with a piece of warm, homemade bread which tasted out of this world. I don't normally get excited about bread, but this was something else!

For my main meal, I had the minted lamb shank with mashed potato and mint jus. The lamb fell off the bone as I tucked into it and it tasted beautiful. The gravy was scrumptious also!

Finally, I just had enough room in my belly to squeeze in a dessert. In the end, I opted for the chocolate praline torte. Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take a photo of my dessert as I wanted to tuck in immediately. But I can safely say that it tasted divine. Very rich chocolate and the cherry sorbet it came with was very refreshing on the palate. It's safe to say that I left the Ty Mawr feeling very bloated - but in a good way.

All in all, I would highly recommend the Ty Mawr if you live in South Wales (or if you ever visit!). The pub is in a lovely setting, the staff were amazing, the food was incredible and I cannot wait to visit again soon.
