How To Manage The Lull Between Christmas & New Year

All that build-up to the 25th December, gone in a flash and then begins the lull between Christmas and New Year. You know what I mean, that period of days when you don't know what day it actually is, where you cannot be bothered to do even the simplest of tasks and you just laze around in front of the TV. The lull between Christmas and New Year can be a lazy period, even if it is only for a short period of time.

It can be really difficult to get motivated to do anything during this time. After all, I've eaten my body weight in chocolates, pigs in blankets and Quality Street chocolates.

I want to make it my aim now to not be drawn into the false sense of security of sitting on my arse for five days doing naff all. I want to make sure that I start my January on a high and not worry about leaving the tasks to do until after the New Year. For me, there's nothing worse than leaving all of those important jobs on the to-do list until January.

So, I've been racking my brain as to deciding the sorts of tasks I should be doing during the lull between Christmas and New Year, and these are the ideas I have come up with:

1) Having a declutter of literally everything

Yep, go for it guys. Declutter your arse off. Whether that be your clothes, the old junk in your attic or the spare room, have a mahoosive sort out and either donate it to your local charity shops or even upcycle it.

2) Fit in the self-care that's been forgotten about

Self-care generally gets put to the side before Christmas as there's so much on my mind to remember. That'll be a great opportunity for me and for you to practice that much needed and forgotten about self-care.

3) Write your goals for the New Year

It's the new year soon, get those New Year goals written down. They don't just have to be long-term goals, short-term goals are always a good place to start. Setting goals for the upcoming New Year can definitely get you feeling motivated for January!

4) Make plans with family & friends

Not fancying spending the lull behind closed doors? Make plans with family & friends, even if it's something as simple as a games night. It's something to look forward to and will get me and you out of that rut!

5) Increase exercise

I always feel better after completing a workout, during this lull, it'll be a good time to try and increase my level of activity and try new workouts etc. Something to take into the New Year also!

6) Nap

If all else fails. nap. Nap until New Year's Eve if you need to.

I hope this post has given you some ideas of how to manage the lull between Christmas and New Year!

  5. Love the last one. Haha! I'm definitely feeling the lull at the moment, but I'm just going with it until January. I'm definitely spending a bit more time on myself at the moment. Indulging in a sofa nap with the girls and having extra long bubble baths. I'll be back fighting fit in Jan! Haha.

  8. I've been potty-training a 3-year-old for the past 2 days so not much else has been accomplished, lol. My goals were far loftier for this week than they should have been. I have been napping when he naps, though. I've mastered that one, haha!

  14. COVID hit our home in the lull between Christmas & New Year so I had no choice but to embrace the days in, movies and endless food. It was nice to sit and be still. I worked for a few days from home and enjoyed having the breaks both ends. I am happy to be back in a solid routine now tho!
