Skinimalism: The Beauty Trend For 2021

*This post contains PR products. See the end of the post for details.

If Pinterest is all over this trend guys, I'm all over it too (for social media reasons and I'm trying to win over Pinterest)

Skinimalism is the new and upcoming beauty trend for 2021, according to Pinterest. Pinterest is deeming this as the new 'glow up' and it's a chance for you to show off your natural, makeup-free look with confidence and allow yourself to shine without the need of wearing makeup or photoshopping. I'm all for showing off my natural, makeup-free skin. After all, I've been doing that for the majority of 2020 because the no need of wearing makeup has meant that I have been bare-faced for quite a while. I've only worn makeup when I need to do blogging or Insta photos and that's about it. I think I can safely say that a lot of women have spent the mass part of the last 12 months makeup-free.

As much as applying makeup does make me feel better, I want to be able to be proud of my makeup-free look and encourage others to feel and do the same.

There can be self-esteem and confidence issues involved and that can be a factor in not allowing you to go makeup-free, which is of course completely understandable and something I can definitely empathise with.

This is a new concept I am willing to try for some part of this year, especially with being in lockdown.

Skinimalism doesn't just have to be ditching the full makeup look and locking away the foundations and concealers. It's simply about embracing your natural look and embracing yourself away from the makeup. Skinimalism can and is about other factors which are non-makeup related.

If you're thinking of giving skinimalism a try, here are the ways you can welcome the trend in your life:

1) NO  MAKEUP
___________
The most obvious one as I have already discussed this a little further up. When (if you really need to) step outside to grab a pint of milk or loaf of bread, don't go all out with the full makeup look. Even before lockdown, if I was going to my local Tesco Express, I wouldn't wear makeup just for the sake of a 10-minute outing. It's a waste of time and a waste of makeup products. Give it a try, think of it this way, you're more than likely to never see the people on your little outing again.

2) USE  NATURAL  PRODUCTS
____________
I'm trying to invest in more natural, chemical-free skincare and makeup products as I think too many chemicals being applied to my face has become the source of my recent outbreak of acne, something which I have never really suffered from before. Wearing face masks is also another factor in that, but I want to experiment and see if using more natural skincare products reduces the number of spots I'm waking up to on a weekly basis.
Speaking of natural products, I recently got sent these moisturisers from SOS Serum Skincare, a skincare brand whose natural products specialise in sensitive skin. I got sent the SOS H20, which is a facial moisturiser and I started using it about 10 days ago. I can see a small difference in my skin and how it feels also. It has given it a bit more of a glow than I would normally get from my normal moisturiser. You will only need a small bit of it, one pump will definitely suffice. This also has an SPF of 30 which will be great protection for your skin.
The second and last item I got sent was the SOS SPF 50. A serum that is a sunscreen that has an SPF of 50. This will be an absolutely perfect addition to my skincare routine in the summer, as this can be rubbed all over the body as well as the face. I tried rubbing this on my arms and it rubs in and my skin absorbs it so well, it's non-greasy, there's no sunscreen smell and it left my skin feeling so moisturised and I cannot wait to use it in the Summer months already!

3) FACE  YOGA
____________
I'll be honest guys, I hadn't even heard of this technique until I read up more on Skinimalism. But apparently, doing exercises such as a neck roll and sticking our tongue out slowly over 5 seconds can help give your skin a glow, help blood circulation around the face and also diminish that double chin. I need something to diminish my double chin that doesn't involve needles or cosmetic surgery of any kind. I'm all for face yoga now.

4) ELIMINATE  SOME  SKINCARE  PRODUCTS  FROM  YOUR  ROUTINE
____________
Is there that serum that is not benefitting your skin? If so, stop using it, use the skincare products that truly help your skin. This could be the perfect time to find out which skincare products you buy really help nourish your skin the most, and which ones have no benefit whatsoever.

I hope this gives you the inspiration to try Skinimalism and I hope the concept is something that attracts you. Of course, it's entirely up to you, but I want to be able to have more confidence in barefaced skin and go out without feeling the need to grab my foundation.

Let me know what you think of Skinimalism!

*These products from SOS Serum Skincare were sent to me in exchange for a review. All Skinimalism views are my own. For more information, please read my disclaimer. Thank you for your support as always!

  3. This sounds like a trend I can get on board with. I have definitely left make up alone over the last year, but my skin is looking very dull recently. I think it's the lack of sun if I am honest. I certainly need to think more about my skin and find something that lifts it a little x

  4. Wow I've never felt more behind a trend! I am defo up for embracing a more natural look. I'm really fortunate in the summer to go a nice dark colour so need only a bit of bronze and some mascara. I love getting glammed up but being more natural is my go-to for day to day!

    Great post, really well written

  5. I've never heard of skinimalism but it does sound good and I'm glad because it can be such a massive amount of effort to put make up on every single day. You're right, I've literally worn a full face of make up under 5 times in the past year! I try to use as little moistoriser products as possible because otherwise, there is just no chance of me sticking to it Love this post :) xx

  6. My uni halls had a Tesco Express on the ground floor and even then sometimes I'd throw on a few products to literally walk down a few flights of stairs. I'm so glad I grew more comfortable in my own skin in my early 20s. I think it's important to look at your skincare and see what's working for you too! x

  19. I've always loved the minimal approach to what we do with our skin--especially our face! I generally go the vast majority of summer without wearing much makeup, so having that extended from March to the present has been such a nice gift for my skin for sure :') Face yoga sounds great!! Getting the blood rushing there sounds like something I def need to make time for x

  30. When I first spoke to a dermatologist, the first thing they said was cut out all products other than a basic cleanser, moisturiser, acne treatment and spf and it made such a difference!

  31. This is an interesting concept. I definitely think the idea of embracing our skin without makeup is a positive movement. For me, I wear makeup because I love being creative and playing around with different colours but I definitely don't rely on it anymore. I think this is definitely a good mindset to adopt as it helps boost our self-esteem.

I'm definitely with you in the sense that using too many products can be an issue. I'm a bit of a skincare junkie, so I struggle cutting down my routine loads as I love trying new products. However, for people that are experiencing issues with their skin, I definitely think stripping back to a basic and simple routine is a smart move!
