Simple Ways to Add More Adventure to Everyday Life

Adventure can mean many things at once. It can be taking a three-month trip. It can be exploring unknown places. It can also be that sense of discovery much closer to home.

When you make small changes to the daily routine, you give yourself opportunities to see ordinary places differently, meet new people and learn what you enjoy.

Explore somewhere new close to home

It’s easy to miss the remarkable sights sitting right outside your front door. Try swapping your usual weekend stroll for a visit to somewhere new. Maybe there’s a local nature reserve you’ve never been to before. Or there’s a market town you have never explored just a short train ride away.

Pull up a map and pick a green space within a 10-mile radius from your home. Don’t Google; just go and spend a Saturday morning wandering down paths without checking your watch.

Spend more time outdoors

Fresh air and being in nature elevate simple activities. Swap an hour of evening television for a sunset cycle through nearby woodland or head to a local lake for a paddleboarding session after work.

Committing to one outdoor activity each week can help boost your mood and help with your overall wellbeing.

Say yes to new experiences

Get out of your comfort zone. Stepping out of your usual patterns instantly creates new stories and introduces you to different social circles.

Is there a sport you’ve wanted to try for a while or a class you’d like to take? Book your place and see if you like it.

Then take an unfamiliar backstreet route home from work. You might find that you drive through a pretty village or discover a restaurant that you didn’t know was there.

While you’re saying yes to new things, accept an unexpected invitation this week. You never know who you’ll meet when you go.

Plan a bigger adventure to look forward to

Anticipation can be just as special as the getaway itself. Booking a future trip gives you a bright spot on the calendar, boosting your mood during ordinary workdays.

Whether you fancy an energetic city break, a coastal walking tour or ski holidays in the mountains, planning out the logistics months in advance is part of the adventure.

I'd love to know your thoughts!
