I am always seeking ways to enhance my hair quality. Whether it's switching up shampoos, changing hair washing methods, limiting heat exposure or trying innovative hair devices. I want to maintain my hair's thickness and health for as long as I can as I age. I have suffered from thinning hair and hair shedding. In particular, on my temples, both left and right sides. It's probably due to heat exposure from constantly straightening my hair during my teens and early adulthood. I've tried every shampoo, conditioner and growth method on the market, and nothing has really vastly improved it. That is, until now, thanks to CurrentBody, I have the * CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet.

The CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet.

Firstly, LED Light Therapy - what is it?

LED light therapy (AKA Red Light Therapy) is a non-invasive treatment that helps to promote the skin's collagen, even the skin's tone and brighten the skin.

When we're talking about LED Light Therapy and haircare, this treatment aims to stimulate the hair follicle for visibly thicker hair, improve the scalp and its hydration, reduce inflammation and oil and increase hair growth rate.

Secondly, who is CurrentBody?

CurrentBody is a brand that has completely revolutionised skincare routines since they were founded over 15 years ago. The brand has collaborated with doctors, world-renowned dermatologists and aestheticians to ensure the safety of its products and ensure that each product works at its best.

Tell us more about the CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet!

This hair growth device is a red light therapy device that aims to increase hair growth and thickness by 123% in 12 weeks.

The LED Hair Growth Helmet is powered by a spectrum of red lights (620-660nm). These wavelengths have been clinically proven to energise hair follicles, reduce inflammation, improve scalp health and, most importantly, lower dihydrotestosterone levels. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a hormone that can cause hair loss and shrink hair follicles.

The CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet aims to improve thickness, density and fullness within its daily 10-minute treatment.

Who is the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth device for?

This device is suitable for both men and women. While male hair loss is more commonly discussed in the media, female hair loss is also a hot topic. Female hair loss particularly affects those who are pre-menopausal and suffering from post-partum hair loss, etc.

This device is perfect for combating those with a receding hairline, thinning hair and hair loss on the crown of the head.

What comes in the box?

The box contents include:

  • The CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet
  • User manual
  • USB charging cord
  • Device base

How do you use the CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet?

It's the simplest of devices to use:

1) Conduct a sensitivity test (instructions for that are in the user manual; do this even if you've used LED devices before.
2) Ensure your hair is clean, product-free and dry before starting.
3) Take a 'before' photo before you start your first treatment. Then you can see your hair's progress as the days and weeks go on!
4) Place the device on your head and adjust the headphones for comfort.
5) Turn on your device and connect it to Bluetooth.
6) Kick back and relax, and let the device work its magic for 10 minutes. The device will switch itself off after 10 minutes.
7) Clean the device with a microfibre or damp cloth. Do not use any chemicals to clean the device.

To charge the device, simply plug the USB-C cable into the side of the helmet, and there will be a white light flashing near the charging port while charging. A solid white light means it's fully charged. From my experience, a full charge takes about 1-2 hours, and it will last around 6-7 days between uses.

The light on the side of the helmet will flash white when it needs charging.

Oh, did I mention some of the coolest features of the Hair Growth Helmet?!

Yes, this helmet has built-in headphones. Simply connect the device to Bluetooth, and you can listen to your favourite playlist or podcast for 10 minutes while the device works its magic. I listen to my playlist while pottering around the house, doing things like washing the dishes or watching a few TikToks.

Another cool feature of this helmet is that it has a timer on the side of the device. You can't see it when wearing the device, but you can look in the mirror and see how much treatment time is left.

Does the device hurt while using?

Absolutely not! This device is completely pain-free and FDA-approved, which means it's completely safe to use.

Does the Hair Growth Helmet come in different sizes?

The device comes in sizes 'Small' and 'Medium'. To measure, simply grab a tape measure and wrap it around your head and above your ears (around 1cm above the eyebrows) to find out your head size.

Small - 54cm - 58.9cm.
Medium 59cm - 63.5cm.

How much does the device cost?

The helmet costs £650.

How long will it take until I see results?

As long as you're consistent with your treatment and do this 10 minutes daily, you should start to see results within 6-8 weeks (depending on your hair growth cycle). The recommended treatment plan is 16 weeks to see the full benefit of this LED hair growth device.

How is LED hair regrowth treatment different from Laser hair regrowth treatment?

While both technologies use light coverage to stimulate cells, increase blood flow and scalp circulation and offer similar technologies, they both have distinct differences.

Laser hair therapy uses a single wavelength to focus a narrow beam of light directly to the scalp, treating only a small area. LED hair therapy uses more wavelengths to treat larger surfaces of the scalp. This results in the LED light having more coverage and activating a higher number of hair follicles per cm².

Have you seen results since using the CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet?

I have certainly seen a marked improvement in my hair's thickness! See the results for yourself in these graphics:

1) Top of Head/Scalp

A graphic showing the progress from the top of head using the CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet.

In terms of the progress from the scalp/top of the head, there's a noticeable difference near the forehead in that it looks thicker and fuller. As the majority of the LED lights are positioned on top of the head, it has worked their magic within this area.

2) Left Temple

A graphic showing progress on the left temple using the CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet.

The photos speak for themselves. The huge improvement in the thickness and growth in my hair on my left temple is nothing short of miraculous. My temples are the areas that have always shown thinness and even slight bald patches. I can't believe the difference within 12 weeks of using the Hair Growth Helmet.

3) Right Temple

A graphic showing progress of the right temple from using the CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet.

Again, the photos speak a thousand words. As I said, my temples have been problematic in terms of lack of hair and sparseness. The progress from before treatment to 12 weeks of treatment is marvellous. I feel more confident and comfortable having my hair up without looking like I have bald patches on my temples.

Would you recommend the CurrentBody Hair Growth Helmet?

I really would recommend this product! As you can see in the above progress photos, there has been a huge improvement in the overall growth and thickness of the areas that were thin and a little sparse. It's hard to believe that wearing an LED lighted helmet can make your hair grow and become and feel thicker over a 12-week period.

The key to getting the results is consistency. You MUST do the 10-minute treatment daily in order to see results. I think I've only missed one day of this because I had a sick day, and I didn't have the energy to do anything! I know some struggle to stick to a new habit or may forget to do the treatment, but even if you do it before going to sleep at night, it'll be worth it, I promise!

Some will look at the price and think - "Whoa". However, if you think about the amount it would cost to have hair laser treatment, this is a worthy investment to get thicker hair without leaving your home.

It is a bulky device, so find a good space to store the helmet. I like to keep mine in the box it came in as it comes with a stand inside the box to put the helmet on.

One teeny, tiny critique I have is that unless you look in the mirror when wearing the device, I couldn't tell when my device needed charging. As I stated, the white light will flash on the side of the helmet, which indicates the helmet needs charging. One way I beat that was scrolling through my phone while wearing the helmet, and I could see the reflection of the helmet on my phone screen. This meant I could see the white light flashing if the helmet needed charging. Like I say, one teeny critique, because overall, I am incredibly impressed with the hair growth helmet and would recommend it to anyone who suffers from thinning hair.

As the colder months arrive, it can feel like a minefield trying to avoid all the winter bugs floating around in the air. Whether it's coughs, colds or even the flu, there's always some sort of germy infection going around during the cold months. The key to staying as bug-free as possible in the Winter is to look after your sinuses and carry out sinusitis treatment if needed.

What is sinusitis?

Sinusitis is a condition that affects the sinuses and nasal passages. It's when the lining of the sinuses becomes inflamed or swollen. The sinuses are small, air-filled cavities that sit behind the cheekbones and forehead. It tends to clear up within 2-3 weeks, but for some, it can become a chronic condition.

As someone who suffers from chronic sinusitis, I take sinusitis treatment daily courtesy of a prescribed nasal spray. With my condition, Cystic Fibrosis, my sinuses are one of the areas of my body impacted most by CF. I've had a previous condition called nasal polyps, which used to play havoc with my sinus daily! Thankfully, I'm rid of that issue for now. At the moment, I sometimes get a problem called post-nasal drip. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, as it's the most disgusting nasal problem ever! I won't go into too much detail as I don't want to be too candid and make everyone feel sick! But Google it, and you'll see.

What are the symptoms of sinusitis?

The most common symptoms of sinusitis are:

  • Congestion
  • Facial pain or pressure (in particular on the forehead, cheeks and around the eyes)
  • Sinus headache
  • Nasal discharge and/or post-nasal drip
  • Reduced sense of smell and/or taste
  • Toothache
  • Bad breath
  • Fever

What causes sinusitis?

Many things cause sinusitis:

  • Viral and bacterial infections
  • Allergies
  • Structural abnormalities
  • Environmental irritants (e.g. air pollution or smoke)
  • Dental infections

I need to keep my sinuses as clear and healthy as possible throughout the year, especially during the Winter - and you should too. These tips I'm going to share with you now not only benefit me, but will benefit you.

Here are tips on how to keep your sinuses clear and healthy for the colder months:

1) Stay hydrated

We are all told to stay hydrated every day anyway, but drinking plenty of fluids in the Winter can help thin mucus, making it easier to drain and relieve pressure. Drinks such as water, herbal teas and warm broths are the perfect fluids to help clear sinuses.

2) Buy a decongestant spray

As my nasal spray is a prescribed medication, I can't offer any advice on what decongestant spray would suit you. Do your research or ask the pharmacist about the best one to buy over the counter.

3) Do a sinus rinse

I do sinus rinses on an as-and-when basis, especially when my sinuses are acting up. Sinus rinses help to reduce inflammation and flush out any gunk that's sitting in your sinuses. Sinus rinses are a great relief for my nasal passages, and I'd be lost without them!

4) Keep your home clean

Dust is a big aggravator for the sinuses. It really irritates them, so it's good to keep on top of the dusting in the house and keep your living space as dust-free as possible.

5) Protect yourself from the cold air

I know that when I go outside when it's cold, my nose runs something awful, and I always need to have tissues to hand. I wrap myself up as warmly as I can, even to the point where I cover my nose with a scarf to keep my nose warm. It sounds daft, I know, but it does work!

6) Wash hands frequently

Very obvious suggestion, I know, but keeping your hands clean and washing them prevents germs from entering your body.

7) Get plenty of rest if the sinuses start acting up

If you have a sinus infection, getting plenty of rest is key to aiding a quick recovery. So put your feet up and take care of yourself if that happens!

8) Use a humidifier

Now, I'm not a fan of humidifiers as they moisten the air, and that can make my lungs feel a little meh. But I know many who like to have a humidifier in their home. Humidifiers are good for adding moisture back into the air, as indoor heating can make the air dry.

9) Use a warm compress

Applying a warm compress to your face can help soothe any discomfort and help with drainage. A warm washcloth easily does the trick.

Looking after your sinuses will definitely help to have an infection-free Winter. There's no way I can guarantee you'll be cold-free this Winter, but it's good to know that by following these tips, you can certainly help yourself stay as germ-free as possible.
