How To Romanticise Your Life For The Autumn Months

Autumn is a season I adore. When September 1st rolls around, I am ready to pack away the Summer clothes and welcome jumper season with open arms. As much as I do love Summer for its longer days and lighter nights, I do love the cosiness of Autumn and lighting candles and drinking hot chocolate. I'm fully aware that I can drink hot chocolate all year round, but hot chocolate really signifies the start of Autumn - also, it's impossible to drink one in 30-degree temperatures.

One of my favourite content creators (@jennyinneverland) stated in one of her posts' captions that September/Autumn feels more like a fresh start than January does. I totally agree! Summer feels like a season when I feel sluggish and flake out due to the hot weather, and I want to make the most of the sunshine before the colder weather arrives.

Autumn is the perfect season to romanticise your life and focus on yourself. It's not just about practicing self-care, but it's about finding what makes you tick during Autumn and orienting your routines and rituals towards the things that bring you joy and happiness. It's about embracing Autumn, even if it isn't your favourite season.

If you're struggling to find how to romanticise your life for the Autumn months, hopefully these ideas will spark your motivation and help you find what really brings you joy during Autumn.

Here are ideas of how to romanticise your life during Autumn:

1) Schedule me time

Do the things that make you feel at peace during this season. Whether it be reading, taking yourself for Autumnal walks, drinking your favourite Autumn beverage, or having that hot bath/shower with an Autumn scented candle lit in the corner. Prioritise your well-being and mood.

2) Go on solo coffee dates or with friends

Solo coffee dates are not as scary as they sound. The thing to remember is that people couldn't care less if you're on your own and won't judge. Every coffee shop/cafe I go to, 9 times out of 10, there is always someone sitting on their own, drinking a coffee and minding their own business. Take a book with you or do some work on your laptop if you want to keep your mind occupied.

Coffee dates with friends are always wholesome. A catch-up over a coffee/tea/hot chocolate is always the perfect tonic. This is the best chance to visit the coffee shops that you've been wanting to visit.

3) Start journaling

Start a gratitude journal and write down the things you're thankful for during Autumn. Or scroll through Pinterest and find some Autumn-themed journal prompts if you need a little help.

4) Bake Autumn goodies

Get your Mary Berry on and start baking. Try that Autumnal recipe you've been meaning to cook. It could be a crumble, a stew or attempting to make your own pumpkin-spiced latte. It may not be totally successful the first time, but practice makes perfect!

5) Rejig your morning routine

Every season, our routines change, especially our morning routines. In the Summer, I aim to keep myself as cool as possible and wake up early to get on with my day immediately. In the Autumn, I much prefer a slow start (especially on the weekends). I like to sit down without my phone and have a cup of tea, and think about my day ahead. Once I've done that, it's surprising how highly motivated I am for the day ahead!

6) Make an Autumn-themed Pinterest board

Seriously, who doesn't love scrolling through Pinterest for ANY inspo? What I adore about Pinterest is that it's an app that involves no drama. It's simply scrolling through, finding photos for moodboards and, for me, looking for outfit inspiration.

If you're feeling slightly unmotivated for Autumn, create a moodboard for how you would like your Autumn to look. Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect, but it helps you get in the mood for the Autumn months ahead.

7) Treat yourself to a new pair of pyjamas

This is one thing I like to treat myself to in Autumn. I look for a new pair of pyjamas or two to cosy up in on those chillier Autumn evenings.

8) Go on an Autumnal walk

Walks in Autumn are truly the best. I get to see nature changing before my very eyes. The leaves are changing colour and floating off trees onto the damp ground. The sound of walking through crunchy leaves is nothing short of perfection. Breathing in that crisp air and taking that moment to take it all in. My idea of bliss.

9) Have your nails done with Autumn colours

I'm going to say it - Autumnal nail colours don't compare to any other nail colours. The burgundys, the neutrals, the browns - nothing beats them. If you're unsure of what nail colours to try, read this post on Autumn nail colours to try.

10) Buy new candles

It wouldn't be Autumn if you didn't buy a new candle or three that emit that scent of pumpkins or cedarwood.

This post has hopefully motivated you to begin relishing Autumn, its prospects and romanticising it for yourself. It's ok if you don't enjoy Autumn. I know there are some who don't enjoy the darker nights and colder days. Also, I know that for some, it can affect their mental health, especially for those with SAD. I'm always a DM away if you need a chat. As someone who has struggled with their mental health and anxiety during the Autumn/Winter months, I know full well it's no picnic.

Let me know how you like to romanticise Autumn for yourself!
