LED therapy was a treatment that could only be done in spas or cosmetic salons. Nowadays, LED light therapy has become the leading at-home luxury skincare treatment in recent years. LED masks offer many benefits for the skin, and when used consistently, give incredible results. With consumers starting to see the rise and popularity of Red Light therapy masks, people are wanting to purchase one for themselves.
However, as the number of brands offering Red Light Therapy devices increases, some may struggle to determine which mask is best for them and their specific needs. Not only that, but price plays a big factor as they're not cheap to buy. They are an investment, so people need to choose the right one based on their budget.
Before I delve into the different masks that are on the market today. Let's discuss what LED Light therapy is and the benefits:
LED Light Therapy, or Red Light Therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that helps to promote collagen, even the skin's tone, and brighten the skin. Also, LED Light Therapy has anti-ageing benefits. The treatment is FDA-approved, so it's completely safe to do at home.
Red Light Therapy helps with the following skin issues:
- Dark under-eye circles
- Redness
- Uneven skin tone
- Dull-looking skin
- Any wrinkles and/or lines
Which Red Light Therapy mask do you currently use?
I currently use the CurrentBody LED Mask Series 2. You can read a full, in-depth review of the mask here.
Have you noticed results since using the CurrentBody LED Mask Series 2?
Since using the mask consistently (3x times per week) for 6 months, I have noticed a huge improvement in my skin's appearance, brightness and tone! Here is a before-and-after graphic to prove that:
How to choose the right LED Light Therapy Mask for you
An LED Light Therapy mask is a huge beauty investment on your behalf. You want to invest your hard-earned money in a mask that will work its magic on your skin. You want a mask which is going to eliminate your skin issues.
There are different factors to consider when browsing for an LED light therapy mask:
1) Skin concerns
First things first, you want to identify your primary skin concerns. Do you have a problem with dull-looking skin? Is it acne that you suffer from? Is rosacea/redness an issue? Are you looking for a mask that can give your skin a boost and promote collagen? Whatever the problem, map out what is important for you, then find the mask which solves those issues.
If you suffer more from acne, blue light therapy may be the way forward for you. Blue light therapy mainly focuses on eliminating the bacteria that cause you have get acne. If you're unsure of the differences between blue light and red light therapy, here's a table comparing the two treatments:
2) Coverage
When we talk about coverage, we want an LED mask which works its magic all over the face, not just here and there. I'll explain in further detail about the coverage of other masks on the market later. With CurrentBody, they sell not only LED face masks, but they also sell a mask which focuses on the neck and decolletage.
Read my review of the CurrentBody Neck and Decolletage Series 2 Mask.
3) Safety, hygiene, material and certification
This is THE most important factor to consider when choosing an LED mask. I would always opt for a mask that has been through rigorous testing and also one that has been approved by the FDA or a similar health agency. At the end of the day, this is your skin. You want to use a safe device.
A unique aspect of CurrentBody's latest device releases is Veritace.
Each device includes a Veritace NFC card. When you tap this card with your phone, you'll receive detailed information about the complete production process of your LED Mask. This provides additional reassurance that your device has undergone rigorous testing to ensure high performance and product integrity.
The three stages of Veritace include:
- Selection – Only LEDs that meet strict quality standards are chosen.
- Testing and Accuracy – Each LED is tested for power, consistency, and performance to guarantee precise wavelength and output.
- Verification – Proof that your specific device meets the required standards and has passed all quality control checks.
When it comes to using an LED facial device, you need to ensure it's a mask that's not going to harbour bacteria after use. You want to use a mask that is made of hygienic material and that is safe to use for your skin. You wouldn't want the mask to rub your skin, would you?! After completing treatment, it is highly advised to wipe the mask down with a lint-free cloth to ensure it's clean for every use.
4) Treatment time and ease of use
To get optimum results, you need to use your facial mask consistently. Now, life admin is something that gets on top of us daily. You want to use a mask that doesn't take up too much of your time. I usually use my CurrentBody mask first thing in the morning. As it has a clip-on controller device, I can do a couple of tasks in the morning while the mask is doing its magic!
Also, you want to purchase a mask which is easy to use and one that doesn't involve an endless amount of wires or one which you have to plug into a plug socket.
5) Price
Last but not least - the price. As I mentioned, LED face masks are a little on the dear side. They are an investment, I grant you that. Obviously, we all have bills and mortgages/rent to pay, so it's important to calculate your budget at the end of the month and maybe put a little away here and there so you can buy a mask for yourself!
What are the differences between the CurrentBody LED Mask and the other LED masks on the market?
People may be under the impression that all LED masks do the same job, with the only differences being the shape of the mask and the price. As there are more LED masks on the market today than ever before, you need to distinguish between the functions of each mask. Rightly, you want to invest in a mask that suits your overall skincare needs, not just address one or two problems.
After looking at the different brands, I've mapped out the differences between them and the CurrentBody Series 2 mask.
1) Dr Dennis Gross
This mask offers three settings: Red Light, Blue Light, and Red+Blue Light. However, as you can see, there are gaps around the eyes, which means your eyes wouldn't get the optimum results from using this mask. CurrentBody offers full coverage under the eyes, which can help eliminate dark circles.
2) Shark CryoGlow
The Shark CryoGlow mask is available in two colours—blue and lilac. While it does provide LED therapy to the cheeks, chin, and forehead, the mask’s design sits approximately 2cm away from the skin, which can mean the LEDs lose 90% of their power before they reach the skin. This distance significantly reduces the power of the LEDS, meaning users are unlikely to experience optimal results.
Additionally, the mask's rigid shell makes it less portable compared to the flexible liquid silicone used in the CurrentBody mask. While the cooling pads can help with de-puffing, they also result in uneven LED distribution, particularly around the eye area, which is a critical zone for anti-ageing treatment.
3) OmniLux Contour
This FDA-approved mask has a great feature of having a flexible strap, which means ultimate comfort while wearing. This one, however, has fewer LED lights than other masks, including the CurrentBody mask.
4) MZ Skin Supercharged
This mask has two modes - an anti-ageing mode and an acne mode, so you are getting two masks for the price of one! However, when the mask is in anti-ageing mode, it doesn't give full coverage around the mouth and chin.
Obviously, I have presented a lot of information to you in this post. Hopefully, this post has provided you with a better understanding of how to select the best LED light therapy mask for your specific skin needs.
It's good to have all the information to hand and also know that there are plenty of mask options for you to try. My go-to mask is CurrentBody's, as it gives optimum coverage and guarantees results (as you've seen in my before and after photo!). It's one of my skincare faves and I wouldn't be without it now! CB are the only brand that checks every single LED, and that's how you know it is the highest quality on the market.

A LED mask does seem like it would be beneficial, but the price has been a deterrent. However, was great to see the comparison between CurrentBody and other brands of LED masks.
