Over the years, sanitary products have evolved. In recent times, there are so many options for young girls and women to try. From pads and tampons to menstrual cups and period pants, the options are endless, but most importantly, they're becoming more sustainable. Sanitary brands are becoming a lot more innovative when it comes to lessening their impact on the environment.

A range of period products including tampons, pads, period pants and menstrual cup.

When I first started my period many, many years ago, my go-to menstrual products were sanitary pads. Back then, they were a lot more bulky and somewhat uncomfortable to wear. Trying to get them to stick on lace undies was a barrel of laughs - not. Now, if you told me back then that in years to come, you could buy REUSABLE pads - I'd have laughed in your face.

It's honestly incredible and revolutionary how far times have come since my teens when it comes to menstrual products. These days, reusable sanitary products have become a lot more worthy of investment. Apparently, women have a period on average of 2535 days of their life. So, I'd definitely say that sustainable period products are worth parting your money with.

Now, when it comes to sustainable period brands and their products, I've used a fair few over the years. From trying period pants for the first time to staring at a menstrual cup and thinking, "How the hell do you put that 'up there'?". I've used quite a few and most brands and products I've tried I've been genuinely happy with.

So, which sustainable period product brands are worth it? Here are five brands I trust and love (in no particular order) -

1) Riley

Riley is an Irish brand created by three women over a glass of wine. That's the way to go about things in my eyes! Anyway, I've used their pads and even their probiotic tablets and I've never been disappointed. You can build your own customised period box using their products. They even do a 'First Period' bundle for all those young girls who are starting their period. Such a clever idea and initiative.

2) Yoppie

Yoppie was the first sustainable period product brand I tried. They have created a wide range of products to help when you're on your period. From the standard pads and tampons to face masks to help with any skin issues during your menstrual cycle. They are a London-based brand and their products are cruelty-free.

3) Ohne

This brand encouraged me to try period pants for the first time, and since then, I haven't looked back. Period pants are the one, just saying. No bulkiness of large pads and no worrying about any unfortunate leakage. Unfortunately, Ohne is no longer operating now, which is a shame because their period pants are incredibly comfy and I use them every month.

4) WUKA

Another period pant brand which I fully get on board with. I tried these a while back and they are honestly so comfortable and stylish. *WUKA sell a range of pants by flow. You can buy period pants from heavy flow to medium flow to light flow. WUKA also sell products for women who are going through menopause, girls who are just starting their period, incontinence pants to even - get this - SWIMWEAR. WUKA have created period swimwear. You can go swimming on your period now. Now I would say is revolutionary!

5) INTIMINA

Over the years, I have used a variety of INTIMINA's products. From their KegelSmart to help with the pelvic floor to their moisturising balm, I've used a range from their website! They also sell menstrual cups, which I'm a little nervous about trying again. The reason is that I got so wary of not being able to get it out once I needed to. Perhaps I'll get some courage one day and try it again!

There are a wide range of brands that sell sustainable period products

These are the ones I have tried in the past and will happily use again. It's great that there are so many options out there for young girls today who are about to start their menstrual cycle. It can be a daunting time, especially as there's a wide range of period products to try. It's important to use products that you're comfortable with, not what your friends use.

Have you tried any of these brands before?

The travel and tourism sector has an impact on the environment. Carbon emissions, food waste, single-use plastic and water pollution all contribute to climate change. That being said, some businesses in the travel and hospitality sector are aiming to be an inspiring force for good. These businesses want to help protect the planet, do the greater good for climate change and promote sustainable travel. This is where Wild England and AliKats Mountain Holidays come in.

Wild England and AliKats are joining forces to help protect the planet, enrich communities and promote positive change regarding sustainability and the environment. Both of the family-run businesses are doing good things when it comes to sustainable travel. They have a vision to create high-quality luxury products that go beyond profit, which is a delight to see.

Let's start with AliKats Mountain Holidays

AliKats is a luxury chalet company in the mountain resort of Morzine in the French Alps. They offer low-impact holidays in the French Alps. They aim to create a low-impact lifestyle and believe that every positive action, however big or small, can make a difference.

AliKats recently won the Global Good Award for their achievements in social and environmental sustainability. They've practiced plenty of sustainability methods, which include:

  • Declaring a climate emergency
  • Permaculture gardening
  • A zero-food waste initiative
  • Creating a Climate Action Plan
  • Decarbonising transport
  • Community action to protect mountain environments
  • Using small local businesses
  • Reducing single-plastic use, waste and chemicals
  • Speaking about climate change on podcasts

AliKats is doing the most incredible, inspiring work for sustainable travel.

Tourism boards and hospitality sectors can take huge lessons from Al Judge, AliKats' co-founder. A sustainability speaker, he says it is essential to talk about climate change and often does so at numerous podcasts and online webinars. Judge also speaks at live industry climate summits and educational workshops to educate about sustainable travel. It is inspiring what Al Judge has achieved with sustainable travel and AliKats.

As I said, one of AliKats' sustainable methods is to reduce single-use plastic and waste. One challenge AliKats has faced is to supply their luxury chalets with premium, eco-friendly toiletries that do not come in disposable plastic containers. This is where Wild England comes in.

AliKats has partnered with Wild England to provide guests with luxurious bathroom products whilst tackling the single-use plastic issue.

Wild England cares deeply about eco-travel and sustainability and has created beautiful, eco-friendly toiletries in the tourism industry. Their toiletries come in these beautiful, toughened, ever-lasting refillable glass bottles. Wild England is eliminating single-use plastic and is all for cost-effective refills and recyclable packaging.

As well as being kind to the planet, their beautiful toiletries are kind to the skin. All Wild England products are paraben and SBS-free and all have individual, signature scents to nurture the skin.

I had the pleasure of trying out the Cleansing Gel and the Body Lotion gift set in the scent of Sweet Orange & Cardamom. Honestly guys, both the cleansing gel and body lotion smell divine and they both blend into my skin so effortlessly. I cannot wait to keep using Wild England and their sustainable products. If you're looking for luxurious, sustainable products for your bathroom, I'd recommend trying Wild England. The glass bottles are so aesthetically pleasing and their packaging is just so minimalistically luxurious.
