How To Have A Digital Spring Clean

Yes, spring cleaning doesn't have to just involve washing your curtains, hoovering under the sofas or Dettoling the kitchen cupboards (obviously you take the food out first) . It can also mean having a digital sort out. By this, I don't mean getting the screen wipes and wiping down your phone, laptop or Ipad screens.

When was the last time you looked through your phone and thought "Yep, I don't need to unfollow, unsubscribe or delete anything as everything is tickety boo and my phone has enough memory to last forever and ever!" Yep, didn't think so. You wouldn't hoard everything like a squirrel in your house to take up valuable space, so why do the same for your technology?

How To Have A Digital Spring Clean

Here are some of the ways you can have a digital spring clean -

1) UNSUBSCRIBE
__________________________
Oh god, the amount of emails that randomly land in my inbox about new hay fever medication or a new serum which will make your skin as smooth as a dolphin's behind drives me mad. We put up with a lot of junk mail landing on our doorsteps on a weekly basis, why not put a stop to it in your emails? I know it's easier to hit the delete button rather than unsubscribe, but think of it like this, a minute or two unsubscribing to them means you won't have to delete much ever again!

2) UNFOLLOWING
__________________________
Don't ever think you're a heartless person if you decide to hit the unfollow button. There's no law that says you have to follow anyone on social media. The last thing you want is for your social media space to be is negative. Nah, can't be doing with all the negative vibes (especially right now) If the person you're following is negative - unfollow
If the person you're following's account is inactive - unfollow (no need to feel guilty about that one)
If the person you're following doesn't inspire you - unfollow
If the person you're following gives you any abuse - DEFO unfollow (and even block)
Don't think of it as a culling, think of it as making your social media space more positive and a happier place to scroll.

3) DELETING  UNUSED  APPS
__________________________
We all that one app which is there but we keep on your phone "just in case". In case of what? If Bozza Johnson decides that the country should all download it? Nah, if it's not being used, delete it. It's taking up valuable memory on your phone. You can always redownload it if you fancy using it again.

4) ORGANISING  YOUR  PHOTOS
___________________________
I had the email from iCloud the other day to inform me that I was running out of space for my photo's. Panic ensues and I delete a load of photo's from my phone. Maybe the email was the kick up the arse I needed to give my photo albums a good culling. I had so many unedited photo's, doubles or screenshots that I had saved for a rainy day. My photo album looks a little more organised now.

5) UNLIKING  FACEBOOK  PAGES
_________________________
Remember the days when Facebook was popular? Ah, memories. The day's when we used to poke each other, play games against each other and have full public convos on each other's profiles. Good times. Also we liked those endless pages about random shit. Whether it was a page dedicated to eating smiley faces or getting in the shower and forgetting your towel. As you can probably guess, those pages have probably been inactive since 2009. Unlike them. Simple as.

  1. I do love a good digital clear out. Whether it be deleting old apps - I have this habit of downloading loads of games and never playing them, then forgetting that they're there haha. I did get rid of a few last night! And having a good old facebook friend clear out is always a good one x

  5. Unsubscribing is definitely something I need to do! So many youtubers I no longer watch and might even try and find some new ones to subscribe to as well!

  8. I love the concept of a digital Spring clean! In fact I pretty much did that a couple of weeks ago on Instagram and my photo albums / phone storage. I think it's so good and healthy to declutter, to find new bloggers / influencers to follow and add some positivity to your screen time too. Thanks for sharing x

  14. My apps being cluttered is something that drives me crazy so I clear those out all the time. The only ones I keep that don't get used that often are travel things like translators but I keep those in their own little folder out of the way. I'm really on top of my file organisation but I feel like the list of mailing lists I need to unsubscribe from is an absolute joke, they build up so quickly! These are all great things to focus on during lockdown to keep yourself occupied. I'm planning on having a session backing up all of my photos and blog post drafts when I get to the bottom of my to-do list x

  15. Love this! I really need to have a digital spring clean, my phone is filled with apps that I rarely don't use and I have tons of photos that I really need to delete as they serve no purpose now as I have backed them up, always worry they will go missing from somewhere though if I do delete them then won't have the originals anymore lol. Great tips and definitely going to do some unfollowing, it's not heartless, it's good house keeping especially when accounts affect mental health.

  21. I'm in dire need of a digital spring clean right now! I remember back in the days of sixth form we all went through a phase of liking those pages that were "Like if you hate slow walkers," "flipping the pillow over to the cold side" and Christ knows what else 🤣 Every now and again one pops up in my feed and I've been unliking them as they appear but I think I need to get on and have a bit of a cull with them! xx

  22. Simple but effective! Unsubscribing from unwanted emails is genuinely such a buzz, knowing that they won't ever get sent again (until you sign up for something else and get THEIR emails instead!). I got a new phone a number of weeks back and still haven't sorted out any photos and my emails definitely need going through. Amazing how much time I waste not doing stuff but this sort of spring cleaning can take 5 minutes if done regularly enough!
