Exercise has been an integral part of my daily routine ever since I can remember. I like to do a mixture of everything, which includes weight training, resistance training and cardio. Cardio is my primary focus in my workout routine, as it greatly benefits my lungs. As someone with a genetic lung condition (Cystic Fibrosis), the inclusion of cardio in my workouts is something that my lungs (and physiotherapists) are pleased with. I usually like to start my workouts in the mornings, which means taking morning walks to begin the day.

I've always preferred exercising first thing in the morning as it really sets me up for the day and gets me into the right mindset for the day ahead. If I wake up worried about something or wondering how I'm going to complete my ever-growing to-do list, a morning walk really helps me focus, decide what the important tasks are on my list, and just generally helps me not stress over everything.

I do believe in the power of taking morning walks, and they do bring their benefits.

Here are some benefits I've noticed from taking morning walks:

1) I get my daily dose of sunshine

Ok, I know the British weather cannot guarantee sunshine every day. It never does. However, when I do manage to get outside in the sunshine, not only do I get some vital Vitamin D, but it gives me more energy to carry through the rest of the day. Walking in the sunshine can also help achieve better sleep.

2) Moving my body

Starting my day with a morning walk gets my body moving and boosts my mood instantly. It's really a simple way to kickstart my day and keep me motivated to tackle the day head-on.

3) It's a chance to clear my mind

As I said, sometimes I wake up feeling overwhelmed with my daily to-do list I've written the night before. I find taking morning walks can clear my mind and bring focus to my day. It's a great way for me to mentally prepare for whatever lies ahead.

4) Reduces stress

Any method to help reduce stress - I'll try. Morning walks allow me to wash some of my stresses away and make me feel genuinely happier. It's a peaceful way for me to start my day.

5) It allows me to connect with nature

Spending time outdoors, even if it's just for a short period, lifts my spirits and allows me to feel more grounded. I'm an avid believer that nature can help with mental health - I know it has done for me!

Not everyone has the time to take morning walks due to work and parenting, etc. But if you do have the time, even if it's just for 15-20 minutes, it's worth it!

*Collaborative post. Humans have celebrated milestones with jewellery for thousands of years. The Ancient Egyptians exchanged rings made of woven reeds and plants as symbols of love and eternity, and Brits in the Middle Ages used jewellery as markers of status and protective emblems. It's just as important today for marking achievements.

Jewellery can become a keepsake of memory and identity, a wearable reminder of where you've been and what lies ahead.

Celebrating Big Moments: Graduations and Anniversaries

Some events call for a touch of elegance and sentiment. Graduations are ideal for gifting classic pieces that symbolise new beginnings, like a delicate gold necklace or a bracelet engraved with a meaningful date. Thoughtful details turn jewellery into something that's a reflection of pride in hard work.

For anniversaries, jewellery takes on even more profound significance. Eternity bands, diamond pendants, promise rings, or personalised charms can capture years of shared experiences. Consumers increasingly prefer personalised jewellery to mass-market designs, with initial pendants and custom engravings among the most popular choices.

Everyday Luxe & Self-Gifting

Milestones don't always need to come from others. The growing self-gifting movement celebrates buying something special for yourself as an act of self-recognition. Jewellery can be a tangible reminder of personal growth and self-worth.

The UK giftware market, valued at an estimated £9.3 billion in 2024, reflects a shift towards intentional, feel-good gifting. Lab-grown diamonds and other modern technology make it easy to blend indulgence with ethical practices. For everyday luxury, consider minimal gold hoops or a signature pendant that elevates even the simplest outfit.

Ethical & Sustainable Jewellery

Jewellery buyers are increasingly mindful of the origins of their pieces. Choosing ethically sourced, recycled, repaired, or lab-grown materials ensures your purchases reflect both beauty and integrity.

Whether you choose an eco-certified new piece or opt for high-quality second-hand jewellery, the key is to buy with intention. Pre-owned jewellery offers excellent value and carries unique character, with a history that adds charm and individuality.

When buying sustainably, look for hallmarks verifying metal purity, ask for details on gem provenance, and support jewellers who use recycled gold or silver.

Budgeting & Longevity

Jewellery is both an emotional and financial investment, so it's worth considering longevity alongside design. Opt for higher-quality metals like 14ct gold over 9ct if your budget allows—they wear better over time and maintain their value. Well-cut gemstones and classic silhouettes (think solitaires or simple chains) ensure your pieces stay stylish for years to come.

Silver is making a strong comeback in jewellery design in 2025, proving that understated pieces can feel contemporary and enduring. Regular cleaning, proper storage, and occasional professional checks will keep your collection looking its best for years to come.
