Halloween-Themed Movies I Have Controversially Never Watched

I'll admit, I'm no Halloween fan. I'm not one to decorate the house with fake cobwebs or carve scary faces on pumpkins. But I know many of my followers can't get enough of Halloween! It's been a long time since I wrote a Halloween-themed blog post, so this post is well overdue, even if the blog title is controversial!

I'm not one for scary films, I never have been. I'm someone who jumps a mile and has a mini heart attack when a door slams shut. I can't stand the thought of trying to watch a scary movie at night. The thought of going upstairs to bed after watching a Halloween-themed movie is my idea of an absolute nightmare!

I know that there are some classic Halloween films that some deem need to be watched at least once in their lifetime. I am pretty sure with the films I'm going to list now, there's going to be controversy as I've never seen any of these Halloween-themed movies, regardless of whether they're scary or not.

Here is the list of Halloween-themed movies that I have never watched:

1) Hocus Pocus

I think this one may be the most controversial on my list. I know it’s not a scary film, but I've never really wanted to watch Hocus Pocus - the original and the remake. I think, out of all the ones I'm going to list in a minute, this one is most probably the only one I can see myself attempting to watch this year.

2) Scream

Nah, I've not watched one single Scream film. The mask scares the living daylights out of me. I'm not a fan of "jumpy" films. Scream is a movie franchise that you will not see me becoming a fan of - sorry!

3) Scary Movie

Again, another movie franchise I will not get on board with. I'm not entirely sure how scary and jumpy these films are, but I'm not going to take the risk and watch one to find out!

4) Paranormal Activity

I remember going to watch the third Paranormal Activity movie in the cinema when I was in college and I literally watched it through my fingers! I don't think it's too ghoulish as such, it just has a lot of jumpy and unexpected moments! Safe to say, when I went home that night, I promised myself that I wouldn't be watching the others!

5) Ghostbusters

Ok, this film isn't really scary, but it's just a film that has never appealed to me. The song from the film is no doubt a classic (albeit slightly annoying for others).

6) It

Watching Pennywise scare the living daylights out of children and even adults, is not for me! I'm not a fan of clowns, so "It" is not a film I would sit down and watch with ease. I've seen bits of "It", and that was enough! It's funny, but when you Google the word "It film" look out for the clown and red balloon emojis floating across the screen!

There we have it, the Halloween-themed movies I have controversially never watched before!

Halloween is a time of the year which isn't for everyone. As I said before, some love dressing up, decorating their house with Halloween decor and happily answering the door to trick-or-treaters. Others, like myself, will be closing their curtains early and praying that no trick-or-treaters knock on their door wanting sweets. Whatever your plans for Halloween, I hope you have the best time!

Let me know your thoughts on my list!

  1. I had never watched Hocus Pocus until a few years ago. I thought it would be too dated for me to enjoy... turns out I loved it. It's my new tradition to watch it every Halloween!

  2. I think a lot of these are probably due to your age. Remember when Hocus Pocus came out, I LOVED IT but I was a little girl. And I was a teen when scream and scary movie came out so they are mega hyped up among people are age and a lot of it is due to the nostalgia! I used to laugh my ass off at Scary Movie but now I'd probably think it was stupid!

  5. I've actually seen all of these which is surprising because I feel like I never watch scary films haha. I really enjoyed the Scream series, probably not your cup of tea, but I really enjoyed it. I bet watching the Scary Movies back again now would be so cringeful!

  7. I love Hocus Pocus, and I don't think it is scary! I'm not a fan of slasher films so Scream isn't for me, but I like the Scary Movies because they are parodies so they're more fun than scary. I haven't seen any of the Paranormal Activity movies, but I've seen all the It movies, which I actually enjoyed.
