Converses have been a constant, long-standing, timeless pair of shoes in the fashion industry. You can't walk down the street without seeing people of all ages wearing a pair. Whether it's high-top, platform, or the classic low-top, Converse are still as popular a shoe as they have always been. However, they are a bit pricey (if you don't want to buy them secondhand). For those who are looking for a cheaper, almost identical pair to buy, you've come to the right place.
I have one pair of black Converse trainers, and, get this - I only wear them 1-2 times a year - tops. Out of the trainers I own, I wear these the least. So when it comes to buying trainers, there are others I'd rather invest in as I know I'd get more use out of them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticising Converse in any way, I know millions of people adore the brand and buy their shoes religiously. But, for me, I cannot justify paying £60 for a pair of trainers I would only wear once or twice a year.
However, Converse-type shoes are the sort of shoe that should be in a lot of people's wardrobes - mine included. It's a staple I need to have! Kind of like a comfort blanket, you don't always need it, but you know it's there when you do!
So, as my current Converses are a little worse for wear after purchasing them nine years ago (yes, you read that right), rather than buy an actual pair of Converses, I've been looking for some cheaper, lookalike alternatives that won't make your bank account cry.
I bought these from George at Asda, which were reduced from £15 to £6 online. And honestly, I'm impressed! They're really comfortable, versatile and will be great to wear during the Autumn/Winter. I'd pair them with black wide-leg trousers for a smart look or leggings for a more casual look.
So, I've scoured online and found some Converse alternatives that will be within a lot of people's budgets:

Great post! For some reason, I've never been able to pull the trigger on a pair of Converse because of the price, though always thinking I should have a pair. It's been a weird hurdle (despite spending more on other shoes, often, lol). This is a great resource! Thanks for sharing.

If you don't fancy the price tag of a pair of Converses, these are cheaper, but equally amazing in quality, dupes!
DeleteI've never owned converse! I don't really like trainers unless I'm working out!

Fair enough Corinne! x
DeleteI find the converse style shoes are actually more comfortable than proper converse. I find them difficult to get on and off due to spinal issues - I can’t look down to check I have pulled them on . Once on they look okay, I just don’t suit them.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree lovely! Converse dupes are far more comfortable!
DeleteHi Lucy Mary, this comment is totally off topic so I hope you'll forgive that. I discovered an old post of yours completely by chance because I googled about being upset by having something I wrote called "cute." Up came your post from 2020 titled I Hate Being Called Cute. Totally got it because in the past I I used to be called cute too. Now I'm old and if I get called cute it's for whole other reasons! So today I read to my husband a serious, slightly sad poem I had written and he called it cute. I nearly lost my you know what. Obviously he didn't get it at all (it was not complicated or weird). I felt really really offended. And felt the need to let off steam on the internet, and thus I found your blog. Also I like your name as mine happens to be MaryLu. Anyway, trying to let this go, and vowing never to share another poem with him! I know I can't control other people's reactions but geez louise, how dare he? We've been married a long, long time so maybe he was only half listening. Wouldn't be the first time! So here I am venting to a stranger 😵💫 So thanks for "listening." And I will check out some other posts on your blog because it looks interesting. Hope this comment is not too odd for you. As far as Converse goes, I’ve never owned a pair so have no opinion on them.
ReplyDeleteI still hate being called cute now, even more so now I'm in my 30s! I'm glad you cam across that post and related to it (all the while not having a go at your husband!). I'm always here if you need to vent!
DeleteI wear my converse more than I would like to but the quality really has gone downhill! xx

I haven't bought a proper pair of Converses for years, it's a shame that the quality has gone downhill!
DeleteAsda is such a good shout. I also love the old M&S ones but I haven't seen them in store for a while!

I forgot about M&S doing them also, I hope they come back in store soon!
DeleteI've always hated buying something with a label, so these alternatives are right up my alley
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like these alternatives!
DeleteThey look great! I have a pair of black converse like this, but I bought them second hand from vinted. I don't think I could bring myself to spend £60 on them. That being said - I do get a lot of wear out of them. I think they're such a versatile shoe.

It's good that you get a low of wear out of them Claire!
DeleteI literally live in converse these days. The price is a big issue for me so finding either alternatives or even good finds in charity shops are my go to to get them. I got two brand new pairs of converse in a local charity a few months back. I only paid full price once and that was when I got my first pay packet from my work haha.
ReplyDeleteGetting two brand new pairs of Converse at a charity shop is an absolutely amazing find!
