Ruti: A Review of the Luxury Clothing Brand

*There are PR items from Ruti in this post. Please see the end of my post for more details.

Discovering new clothing brands is one of my favourite things to do. As much as I love high street stores, it's nice to find other clothing brands and learn about their ethos and clothing style. It's even better when you discover a brand that matches your current style. This is exactly what happened with Ruti.

Who is Ruti?

Ruti is a clothing brand founded in 2009 by Ruti Zisser. After years as a tech executive, Ruti took a leap of faith, struck out on her own, and decided to create a new kind of luxury brand.

Ruti has three rules when it comes to design:

  • It must be cool - you don't need to sacrifice the cool factor to achieve a classic and sophisticated look.
  • It must be flattering - Ruti's clothes are designed to flatter women without making them look like they're trying too hard.
  • It must be practical - 80% of Ruti's collection is clothes that she wears daily. 20% of Ruti's clothing is aspirational, the woman she daydreams of being.

The brand also has 5 core values:

  • Unconventional
  • All about community
  • Comfortable and nonchalant
  • Timeless styles
  • Slow fashion

What items did you receive from Ruti?

I received the Relaxed Light Denim Tunic and the Crop Mid-Rise Straight Jeans.

Tell us about the Ruti Relaxed Light Denim Tunic!

This *denim tunic (linked similar to the one I'm wearing has sold out) is a great addition to my Autumn wardrobe! Another great aspect of this tunic is that with a waistbelt, it can be worn as a cute Summer-style dress. I am definitely pairing this tunic with a pair of black leggings (cotton or athleisure wear), a white tee/vest/sports bra, and a pair of my favourite trainers. This tunic has poppers on the cuff as well as on the front to do up.

If you're petite, I recommend sizing down to avoid the item drowning you out.

Now tell us about the Ruti Crop Mid-Rise Straight Jeans!

We all know the struggle of buying jeans that fit us perfectly. We've all been there where we're different sizes in different stores, and the pain of sending jeans back because they don't fit well. I did take a risk picking jeans from Ruti. A brand I was unaware of until recently, and having jeans from them was a HUGE risk in case they didn't fit. However, I'm pleased to say...THEY FIT PERFECTLY!

*These jeans are incredibly flattering - BUT - I forgot to size down as recommended on Ruti's website...oops! However, these still fit really well and are super comfortable. It's slightly loose on the waistband, but that's my fault. If I had sized down as recommended by Ruti, these would have fitted perfectly. Having said that, these fit really well and are quite flattering despite being the wrong size.

One design detail I like about these jeans is that, rather than a zip to pull up, it's rivets instead. It makes the jeans even more comfortable to wear, and there's no worry of a zip showing when sitting down.

So, how would you rate the brand?

Quality

The item's quality is pretty good! The denim is of amazing quality; it's durable and versatile. The jeans are incredibly comfortable, and I can happily wear them while relaxing at home. The tunic is of great quality, also I love that the poppers for buttons! These pieces will last me for a long time!

Sustainablity

This is one slight snag with this brand - there's no evidence of their sustainability credentials anywhere on their website. This is such a shame, so I am going to assume they don't practice sustainability. If they do, then they haven't declared so. If that's the case, their website needs updating to show that.

Price

With this brand, you do get what you pay for in terms of quality. As I've said, the quality is second to none. The prices reflect that. Yes, it's expensive guys, I'm not going to lie. Prices range from £74 to £310.

Style/Versatility

There are pieces that I could easily incorporate into my wardrobe. Other pieces I most certainly wouldn't. Again, that's due to my personal taste. One thing I can say is that some of the brand's pieces are very versatile and can slot into a minimalistic or capsule wardrobe.

Fit

For my body shape, Ruti's items fit me quite well. I should have sized down on the jeans if I had read the caption properly (as stated above). There's no struggle putting the jeans on, they're not too tight on my waist or thighs and are comfortable to wear.

The tunic fits really well; the length is slightly too long for my height. However, if I sized down, it would have felt snug on the arms. So I think I was better off getting this size for that optimum comfort and style.

Shipping/Returns

If you live in the US, they offer free shipping on purchases over $100. However, for international shipping, costs are determined by destination, size/weight of package and the chosen shipping method. So if you ordered from the UK, for example, you could be paying at least £10 for shipping. Expensive - yes. But I've seen other international brands charge a lot more.

In regards to returns, if you order from the UK, you will be liable to pay at least £10 to return your item/items (this does depend on the country of origin), and the return fee will be deducted from your refund. Hmm. Make of that what you will.

Would you recommend Ruti?

If you like premium and luxury minimalist clothing, then this brand is for you! I adore the quality of the items, and you would certainly get your money's worth! However, the pricing and lack of sustainability credentials are disadvantages for me.

Their returns policy has me questioning things, too. But I know every brand likes to do things differently.

I like Ruti's items, but I don't know if I would buy from the brand myself. It's just too expensive for my bank account!

I'd love to know your thoughts on my review!

  1. I've not heard about this brand before, so it was great to be introduced to them and get a little look about what they offer. I like the look of the jeans, and appreciate that their advice to downsize is accurate (I don't always trust that, haha)!

  4. I've not heard of this brand before, but the products look and sound fab! I don't think I'd mind the slightly larger sizing - More room for cake if you ask me! Haha. I'm all about comfort these days anyway, so they sound fab!

  5. The tunic really suits you. As for the jeans, the fact that you were able to order them online and that they fitted comfortably says a lot about the brand.
