Brighton is one of those places in the UK you have to visit - purely for the seaside and famous pier alone. A lot of people have asked me why I booked one night in Brighton - well my friends, I booked this mini trip for a few reasons -
1) To have a photoshoot with one of my lovely blogging friends
2) To just have a night away to myself
3) To boost my confidence and help my travel anxiety
4) Because I wanted to go on the beach and buy a stick of rock (seaside ones always taste better!)
So yes, after a dragged out train journey down, where I had two kids and their mother gobbing off, hearing people slagging off Scousers (something I was NOT happy about) and numerous seat changes on the train to find the coolest seat, I made it to Brighton. Unfortunately, the taxi driver drove me past my hotel and dropped me off half a mile down the road so I had to drag my suitcase and sweaty self up the road. Sigh.
After a lovely night's sleep in the Premier Inn (due to inducing myself to a Dorito's coma) I strolled to Gregg's and grabbed myself some breakfast. You cannot beat the ham and cheese toasties in Gregg's. They really are hubba-hubba.
Ok, less talk of toasties. After devouring my breakfast, I got changed, applied my makeup knowing full well that it would melt off me within the next couple of hours. You know that feeling when you step off a plane abroad and the heat just smacks you in the face? That's how it felt in Brighton. It was a proper scorcher as I walked along the front toward the Brighton Pier. I don't like to be one of those people who complains when it's too hot, but f**k me it was like an oven down there.
Brighton Pier is one of those hotspots in the UK that you need to visit at least once in your lifetime. The Pier has so much tradition radiating from it. From the small shops lining along the promenade to the fairground at the end of the pier. I won't lie, I was half tempted to go on the rollercoaster and the carousel. Well, who wouldn't?
Then came the time to step foot on the famous pebble beach. It was a lot easier to walk on than I thought, mind you I had my Primark trainers on so maybe that was why. I would also like to congratulate myself on replicating a striped deckchair in this Nasty Gal skirt.
So an hour and photo session later, I get back to the hotel an absolute dripping mess. My hair imitating Monica Gellar's (IT'S THE HUMIDITY!) and I desperately ransack my already packed suitcase to find my Dove deodorant to give myself a final spritz before I head off to the train station once again.

Yes, my 20 hours in Brighton was a busy but fun one. Walking up and down the pier, having a photo sesh with Ellie and just chatting all things blogging and life in general made my day. Plus being at one of the places I've always wanted to visit made it a teeny bit special. Thank you Ellie once again for my photo session and also for my little pressie, it was so kind of you!
Seriously, take a visit to Brighton if you ever get the chance. Just for the Pier alone. Not for the old woman who had a go at me on the busy streets of Brighton for not getting out of her way quick enough on the pavement. She was just plain rude.
Have you ever visited Brighton or would you ever want to? Let me know!

DeleteI've wanted to visit Brighton for SO long!! I've heard it has some amazing vintage stores, beautiful seaside views and of course the famous Choccywoccydoodah! I think I might plan a little trip down next year as I'm confident enough to drive on the motorway now. I have looked at train tickets before but they're SO expensive from Bristol! So glad you had a fab time :-)

It is brilliant down there Alice! Cause I have a disability card, I get my train tickets cheaper so the train journey is kind of worth paying the money for! I don't think I'm that confident to drive all that way on my own! xx
DeleteI went to Brighton years ago but I was too young to remember much! I'd love to go back and explore Brighton some more!
ReplyDeleteGo and have a little adventure down there one day Serena!
