I made a little pinky promise to myself, can you make pinky promises to yourself? Anyway, I said that I would never let myself feel unhappy about blogging again, so getting rid of the tight schedule I kept to for months was literally thrown out of the window.
We're in February now and I can honestly say that not keeping to a strict rota with the blog posts has done my writing and more importantly, my mental well-being the world of good.
I kind of feel more content, relaxed and mellow about my blog right now. I don't feel that pressure that I put myself under last year anymore.
My aim for this year in terms of blogging is to remember why I started in the first place - to write. To put my mark on the blogging world, to give my opinion on things I didn't usually discuss with my friends and family and to just fulfil my passion I've had since my primary school days. The days where writing pages and pages of random shit about dragons storming castles or writing Haiku poems about the seasons. Well, I'm not planning on introducing poetry or dragons to my blog, but you get my drift.
What I've found is that my blog views have increased with writing less posts. Ok, I know that doesn't make any sense, but hear me out. It means that my posts aren't getting snowed under and not being read properly by my audience. I was updating on a tri-weekly basis, which meant my posts weren't getting the best opportunity to be viewed, because literally a few days later, I was publishing a new post on my blog and that cycle started again.
I honestly prefer writing this way too, like I said, it's taking that pressure off me and I feel like I can relax more while I'm writing and posting. I can focus on writing more authentic, real posts rather than forced ones. Well, I never posted forced content last year, but you know what I mean.
Do you prefer writing lots or less?
Lucy

I've noticed an increase in views since posting less too! I wrote a post every day in October and as much as I loved doing it, my posts weren't getting half as many views as they usually would because I'd be uploading again the following day!

Yeah it’s strangely good isn’t it?! I think it gives people more chance to read the most properly rather than uploading a new one days later! x
DeleteI think I can connect with you on this. When I too, was starting out, I used to do even 4 posts per week, but now, am doing atleast 2 posts per month. I focus more on quality content, and driving traffic.
ReplyDeleteQuality is better than quantity in blogging!
DeleteFirst, the blogging journal is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I love this post! I tried to fit in with all these other lifestyle posts by posting nearly everyday but it was so time consuming and draining. The quality of posts went down and I felt like people didn't care too much. I stopped sticking to a schedule as well and post whenever I can, and I feel so much more relaxed like you said. Engagement is up too and I actually have time to promote my posts! I think when you blog everyday or every other day, a lot of readers sort of eventually seem your posts as spam and skip them... Well at least, that's how I feel with some of the blogs I follow out there, lol.
Posting everyday is so draining, I agree with you on that one! I’ve also stopped sticking to a schedule for this year, it really is draining and time consuming!
DeleteFor a long time I was a daily blogger and the pressure ended up being WAY too much. When I made the decision to back off and stick to 3 posts per week, which is my current schedule, it made a huge difference in the stress that I was feeling about it all. I don't think I'll ever go back to daily blogging long term (maybe for a short event like 12 days of Christmas or something)

Well done Britt! I’m so glad you’re happier now with blogging 3 times a week, daily blogging is draining and time consuming!
DeleteI definitely think it's better when we're not too hard on ourselves when it comes to posting schedules, as it takes the pressure off and makes it a lot more enjoyable I've found too xx
ReplyDeleteGemma • Gemma Etc . ❤️
I completely agree with you Gemma! xx
DeleteI liked this post so much. In as much as Consistency shows that you are serious and attracts more of your audience sometimes quality is all which is needed. Because when people notice that there is something off, they ran away.
ReplyDeleteGreat post
Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely Carelle! Quality is always better than quantity!
DeleteI saw the link to this post on twitter and decided to visit. I just launched my blog and I'm posting everyday. Does this really work? I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteIt all depends on how you feel lovely, if you want to post everyday, then do! But speaking personally, I find posting everyday draining and time consuming!
DeleteCompletely agree with you! Posting more just felt like an unnecessary stress, and it really is a weight off your shoulders when you're posting when you want to. Well done!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Sophia! It's less stressful than posting multiple times a week!
DeleteGreat post - it's not cool to feel under pressure to create content, but better to write when you have something interesting to say. I try to apply the same on my blog and honestly there are times I just way too much going on to be as regular as I'd like. Glad I'm not alone!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels this way too Rachel!
DeleteSometimes I'm not in the mood for writing, and that's okay! Pushing yourself to make stuff takes away from all the fun that comes with blogging :) Best of luck to you!
ReplyDeleteLaura / https://www.laustworld.com/
You're absolutely right Laura! There's no point in pushing your content when it just isn't there!
DeleteLucy you are so right! Currently I post 3x/wk but I think I'm taking it down to 2. I've been feeling overwhelmed and forced to get my content out on time and barely have time to promote my content. It may change my traffic, not sure but I don't care. I don't want to lose myself or wear myself thin because of a schedule I created that I can barely keep up with. I'm glad I saw this post!

I really hope it helps your traffic by reducing posts too Natonya! x
ReplyDeleteIt really is quality over quantity :) I'm glad you found a (not so) schedule that works for you. I've tried so many different schedules (and not schedules) in the past and I have one that works for me now. But i'm always open to changing it if I find it doesn't anymore. That's the great thing about blogging, you can always change it up to suit your needs!

Absolutely Jenny! It's good that we can be versatile and flexible in blogging!
DeleteGood for you. I only post 2-3 times a week as I focus on writing but also promoting. But also, I have a job. I would be burned out if I post everyday.
ReplyDeletePosting everyday would definitely be draining and time consuming!
DeleteVery good post.
ReplyDeleteI'm aiming for at least once a week in 2019. For me, it's all about having it planned out. If I haven't planned it's not gonna happen :D
Good luck with getting back into blogging in a good way <3
Thank you so much!
DeleteQuality over quantity is definitely the key here! I think that's why I had stopped my previous blog. I was so burnt out and uninspired by having to post so many times. Hoping this year will be better and I will find my love of blogging again. :)
