I remember my supposed first bra measurement, my Mam took me into Tesco, held up different bras to my chest to test out each size, my Mam came to the decision that I was a 36D - or as she said, "That's close enough". So from that point on, I bought 36D bra's (half) convinced that my Mam had bought me the right size bra and that was that.

Fast forward to three years ago, when I plucked up the courage to have my bra measured professionally for the first time in Boux Avenue. I then found out that my Mam had completely ballsed up her attempt at bra measuring in Tesco all those years ago and I found out that my real bra size wasn't even remotely close to what I was currently wearing. I wasn't even wearing the right cup let alone band size. My band size was measured as a lot smaller and I was measured as a bigger cup. As you can imagine, I took great delight in proving my mother wrong. Well, who doesn't love proving their parents wrong? Maybe not on bra sizes as such, but other things too.



Again, let's fast forward three years from when I was last professionally measured at Boux Avenue. Recently, I took a(nother) trip to Liverpool . Before the trip took place, I was finding my bra size a little uncomfortable to wear as it felt tight around the sides of my ribs. I upped the band size but it still didn't feel right. So I stepped into the same Boux Avenue store that I had my bra measured three years previously and I asked for another measurement.

I was taken into the elegant, French style fitting room, with a long mirror to admire my potential new bra from, subtle and flattering lighting and lovely hooks to hang the bras from (I don't know if that's really relevant or not). I was asked by the assistant what type of bra I like to wear and what type of colours would I like to try on. She grabbed some bras, got the tape measure out and figured out the numbers.

Thankfully I had remembered to spray an extra spritz of deodorant before entering the store.



Anyway, she allowed me to try on the different bras and assessed which bra would be best suited for my bust. There's so much detail in bra measurements, from the sizing of the bra to the styling of the bra and adjusting the bra straps correctly. I loved how my fitter was so friendly and patient with me, she was so professional.

The main problem was the cup size. I needed to go up one extra cup size as I was spilling over the bra (the bra I walked in with) just a tiny bit. I left there after the measurement feeling happy that my bra size is determined now than my days in Tesco.



I would totally recommend the Boux Avenue's fitting service. The staff are so friendly, professional and the fitters make you feel at ease straight away. I can understand if you feel self conscious about bearing your bra to a random stranger, just think of it like this - they're professionalism is second to none and they carry out these measurements a dozen times a week on different women. Plus it's free - what's really stopping you otherwise?
