An Appreciation For Twitter

We see blogger’s writing posts about how to beat the Instagram algorithm, how to use Pinterest effectively and why Facebook is the cause of all unnecessary drama. But (please correct me if I’m wrong here!) I’ve never seen a blogger write a post about Twitter. Maybe it’s because Twitter is the one app that doesn’t give us grief on a daily basis.

An Appreciation For Twitter

Instead of bashing certain social media platforms, let’s praise one! After Facebook, Twitter was the second social media platform that caught my interest and I signed up back in the Internet dark ages of 2009. Even 10 years ago, social media was never seen as a massive hype. How things evolve eh?

I never really understood the purpose of Twitter when I first created an account. Probably because it wasn’t a popular platform back in 2009. Facebook seemed to be hogging all of the glory. Remember the days you used to ‘poke’ people? Ah, fun times.

Anyway, Twitter involved us learning how to write and send tweets with maximum of 140 characters to play around with. The skill not having to make a grammatical error and try and come across as making sense. That boys and girls was and is a skill. Now Twitter has kindly gifted us with double the amount of characters and now we have 280 characters to write mini stories instead of just a sentence. People who didn’t use Twitter before the 280 character tweet allowance was introduced will never know the hardship of what we had to go through tweeting before that.

An Appreciation For Twitter

Twitter has become such an easy going social media platform to use. Ok, there can be drama on there sometimes, but I don’t think it’s as half as much as I see on Facebook.

One thing that I do love about Twitter is the friends I have made. Having Cystic Fibrosis means I can’t meet anybody else with CF due to cross infection rules. This means I can only really speak to them online, or five feet apart *winks*. Talking to them through Twitter has allowed me to make friends which wouldn’t be possible in real life.

Also because of promoting my blog posts through Twitter and getting involved with weekly blog based Twitter chats, I have made new online friends through that. I get to speak to different bloggers from all over the UK, and even the world because of Twitter. The app is so accessible to me and I think that’s the main reason Twitter is still one of my favourite apps.

So this post is me saying HELL YEAH to Twitter for being the most consistent app and for being one of my favourite apps for many years!

Let me know the reasons why you love Twitter!

  2. Love the positive vibe here! I think we don't talk about Twitter because it's easy to understand (unlike Pinterest) and isn't problematic (unlike Instagram) so it's just...there. I love Twitter, it's definitely my favourite social media platform and I can't see that changing any time soon x

  4. I love this idea! Twitter is by far my favourite social media and it actually WORKS. Getting your tweet within the 140 characters literally is a skill, these kids signing up today with 280 characters have no clue how lucky they are haha x

  6. I'm a full on Twitter supporter. It's my favourite platform. I think why people don't talk about it is because it's easy to use and words like 'algorithm' don't crop up as much! X

  7. I absolutely adore Twitter. I have my personal account where I've followed celebs I like for years and I love getting the snapshots into their lives - do you remember the days when all you'd know was from the magazine interviews?

But my real love grew with my blogging account. I connected with other Autistics first and it helped to normalise a lot of my experiences when I found other people like me. Then I became more involved with the blogging community and made some great blogging friends and I honestly don't know what I'd do without you all now!

  8. You can tweet with 280 characters in Twitter now? LOL! I didn't know that. I just started using Twitter again this month and ohh I miss this platform. I see honest to goodness tweets from friends that they wouldn't dare post on FB! I'm convinced that I should use it more often. Btw, found your blog through twitter :)

  10. This was such a fun post about Twitter! I personally love it, but it can be a bit overwhelming at times. I love that I can say what I want, but at the same time it still feels like I'm shouting into the void at times. Though I do love the blogging community and other communities you can connect with <3 There are so many great people out there that who you wouldn't have been able to meet without Twitter!
