Six Apps I Don't Use That Everyone Else Does

Apps have become essential on any smartphone. Whether that be social media apps, simple apps like mobile banking or games like Candy Crush (is that even a thing now?). However, some of the most popular apps I don't even have downloaded on my phone...

The apps I'm going to mention now are just apps I either don't have time for or deem unnecessary for my personal life. I know that so many people do get a lot of enjoyment out of these apps in particular, so I have nothing against them in that perspective.

When it comes to using my phone, I only want the apps that I enjoy using, that I use regularly and ones that are beneficial to me. That even includes the majority of social media apps!

So, which apps don't I use but everyone else does? Well, here they are:

1) TikTok

This is quite a biggy. When TikTok became a roaring success during the lockdowns, I never got into the hype of it. I never wanted to draw myself into watching videos endlessly on my phone and also with Instagram introducing Reels, I just didn't feel it was necessary for me to have a TikTok account. Plus most of the time I end up seeing TikTok videos filtering through to my Instagram feed at some point or another. Another reason I don't have TikTok is that I'm not creative enough to make videos, I barely create a Reel on Instagram so what's the point in me having a TikTok account? I know a lot of people love it so it doesn't really bother me.

2) Facetune

I'd like to think that most of us don't have this app downloaded on our phones. An app that can potentially airbrush you into a different person? No thanks. I'm all for embracing flaws, cellulite, belly chub and bingo wings. That's real life.

3) Snapchat

I downloaded this app years ago - I lasted 30 minutes before deleting it. Couldn't get the hang of it, the filters are cute and I don't mind others taking selfies with me using the filters (especially the funny ones), but otherwise, it's not for me. Instagram is the only photo-related app I use. That's enough for me!

4) Any games

I've never been one to play games on my phone. As long as I do my daily Wordle and all the other Wordle-esque puzzles, I'm happy. I can't even remember the last game I downloaded on my phone. Honestly. If I'm bored, I either just scroll through social media or just do something like cleaning!

5) Spotify

One music app I have never wanted to keep permanently on my phone. I've tried the 3-month trial and I just never got along with it. I use Amazon Music or Apple Music for my music needs. There seem to be so many different song apps these days or is that just me?!

6) Tinder

I'd like to think that people in relationships don't have this app still downloaded on their phones (even if they didn't have it in the first place!) I'm single, I need to meet a man and I know that. But I just don't think I will find him on Tinder. I reckon it'll just happen one day and it'll be spontaneous and it'll be meant to be. I just think it would feel more forced to meet him through a dating app. But that's just my personal opinion!

I'd love to know if you agree with me on any of these? Let me know!

  1. I'd like to not keep those social apps I don't personally want, but then I think who knows a brand wants it? I just made my tiktok and did the first video. But maybe I wouldn't want to create videos that's too time consuming. Snapchat and tinder I don't have. I only had atleast one game in phoen but don't for the longest time. I agree with you on narrowing down on apps. We need to filter out more for our own wellbeing. Liked the post. Xx

    1. Brands do sometimes check what social media accounts you have for collabs. Creating videos is so time consuming, if I did all this full time, I probably would make more time for video content! xx

  2. I'm definitely guilty of these, especially TikTok x

  3. Great post Lucy! There are so many apps to choose from these days and whether they’re popular or not, it’s always about finding what works for you. I especially love no facetune! Let’s embrace our humanness, it’s what makes us beautiful!

  6. I’m with you on ALL of these! I used to use Spotify but didn’t use it enough to warrant it taking up room on my phone. I don’t use TikTok or Snapchat - I feel too old for them haha!

  9. I really dislike TikTok too! I downloaded it with the intention of uploading them to document my placement as they are on the app too. But honestly, Instagram is moving towards reels and that's where I would prefer to post them. I'm trying my best to post more reels but photos are still my favourite. Maybe I'll post them to both? But that seems a bit pointless to be honest. I'm glad to find someone who feels the same x

    1. Instagram has definitely moved towards being more of a video-sharing platform these days, so if I create any videos/reels, I'll just share them on there! It seems pointless to share to both, but then again, it may be a good idea?! x

  10. I have Tiktok but I'm a bit hit and miss with it. I generally post my reels to TikTok but I don't really use it much to watch videos. I feel like it's a bit 'young' for me. Same with Snapchat. I have an account but only use it when Whatsapp goes down as we have a group chat on there for emergencies. I also don't have Facetune. I use Apple Music and I used to have Tinder, I met my husband on it!

  11. Like you I don’t use: Tik Tok, Facetune, Spotify or Tinder. I have Snapchat but that is for the filters when I take pictures. I only save them, I don’t share them on there and games I only have 2 ha ha! Thank you for sharing what you use. It definitely feels like everyone has tik tok.

I have tiktok and Spotify although both I don't really use either. I uploaded to tiktok so sporadically and only listen to one podcast on Spotify. Totally not down with the kids. Haha.

  15. I've never really had TikTok. I think I understand the hype around it but I feel like having it would make one spend a lot of time watching a lot of videos, that's a lot of time. I watch videos on Instagram every now and then instead. I'm also not a fan of phone games, I'd rather play something physical like board games. Such an interesting post.

  17. I'm surprised Snap Chat is still going? You don't need to find anyone, when you are ready you will do it. Tik Tok over Insta any day, Tik Tok is more real, real people from all walks of life and backgrounds, looks, just having a laugh and I'm laughing with them. I find Instagram too superficial now. It's literally like a fashion shopping catalogue with endless promo links and discount codes, and it's exhausting to watch or keep up. Which I no longer do. Forget the algorithm, I have unfollowed sooo many top influencers, they are the only ones that seem to really be growing and have far to many comments to be able to have a real connection with anyone from their community. Some of them, If you look closely, you'll see that some have moved on to create products to sell or spend a lot of less time on Insta. Insta over the years have just Alienated smaller creators with certain access to features and not pushing their content to be seen. I think Insta is trying to become a fun platform to be on, for me personally it's too late. The other apps mentioned in this post I don't use either.

Sorry, I should have made this into a Blog post, lol.
    Have a great weekend ; )

Instagram has become an app which only the biggest influencers/creators seem to do the best in terms of engagement, which is good in a way, but not so good in another way! The algorithm has ruined the app in a way. It's sad cause Instagram used to be a lot more fun back in the day! x

Like you, I don't have any of the other apps (apart from Spotify), as i don't feel i need or want them! Plus my phone is pretty much reaching the limit for storage so I don't have a choice of downloading more apps 😂

I find some apps can become very addictive too so I try to stay away. Thank you so much for sharing this with us lovely Xo

  26. 1) TikTok - I have it but the small amount that I do upload is often already uploaded to Instagram anyway.

    2) FaceTune - nope what you see is what you get lol. Really not a fan of filters and tuning. I have played with some editing apps to correct the brightness and things like that on planner pictures etc but that's about it.

    3) Snapchat
I had it briefly but didn’t really use it apart from to talk to one or two friends and then they switched or the novelty wore off so I installed it again. I didn’t really get the point of it though lol.

    4) I have some games on my phone but they are mostly there for my son… occasionally I go through and offload a lot of them, and then they all end up back on again the next time he uses it lol.

    5) So I have Spotify but I did stop using it for a while. We’re trying to decide which subscription service to subscribe to again. We have music playing nearly every day and it’s so worth it but trying to figure out which is the best deal is a challenge. We’re looking at Apple Music again and it’s got a variety of offers but getting further than a screenshot sent to my husband was about it.

    6) Never really had to worry about online dating. I think if the husband and I were to split I’d probably end up a crazy old cat lady by myself because of all the horror stories I hear of internet dating (having said that I know people who have got their HEA from online dating).
