What Sexy Means To Me

*Items in this post are PR Samples. Please see the end of this post for more details.

I never thought a blog post title of mine would have the word 'sexy' in it. Sexy can be taken in two different ways, it can be seen as a compliment or as a derogatory remark. I've never been a fan of being called sexy. I don't call men sexy. I would much rather say that a man is attractive or good looking. But this is my opinion, insert your opinion at the end of this post, I'd love to know your views on this!

Anyway, recently, Figleaves got in touch with me to send me this beautiful new Mila underwear set and asked me, if I wished, to write a caption on an Insta post giving my definition what sexy means to me. At first, I was a little apprehensive and I couldn't really think what to write! After thinking about it, I thought, why not?! It'll be interesting for people to read of what the definition of sexy is to myself. I can imagine that women and men will have a different opinion of what sexy means to them.

In their email to me, Figleaves wanted to focus on how I feel in my own skin and not focus on being sexy for the gaze of someone else. That statement really got me thinking - what does sexy mean to me? What are the qualities that make me feel good being in my own skin? Well, after a while, I made a little list -

1) EMBRACING  &  ACCEPTING  MY  FLAWS
____________
I've always found it a hardship to embrace and accept my flaws. Having Cystic Fibrosis means I am presented with body hang ups from the illness and the side effects of the medications. I have days where I am happy with my body and are happy to walk around my room in my underwear (making sure the curtains are closed, I've made that error before). However, there are multiple days when I want to hide my body away behind an oversized jumper and curl up and eat a whole bag of Kettle crisps. I've learned over time that my body will always have flaws and imperfections and rather than bitch about them, I should just accept them and remember that we all have flaws, it's not just me.

2) BEING  MYSELF
___________
Being myself has been my philosophy ever since I left school. I got bullied for being myself in school and when I left, I finally got to be me and being yourself means you can have a positive impact on the world. If we all acted the same, the world would be such a tedious place. Being who we are adds that sense of uniqueness to our lives.

3) REALISING  I  WILL  NEVER  BE  PERFECT
___________
This point kind of ties in with the first one, but yes, we all aren't perfect. Even the Queen (an absolute inspiration I might add) has her faults (hardly any though). Yep, I will never be perfect, so will none of you, so accept that fact and move on.

4) CONFIDENCE
____________
I don't mean the arrogant kind of confidence. I mean that quiet confidence of feeling good within yourself and feeling like you can conquer the world. That quiet confidence can really make me feel good about myself. However, that feeling doesn't happen very often so when it does happen, I definitely relish it!

5) WEARING  CLOTHES  THAT  MAKE  ME  HAPPY
_____________
Want to wear that crop top. HELL YEAH I WILL. Maybe not so much now as it's a bit chilly outside, but in the Summer, yes, I'm gonna dress like Winnie The Pooh whether you like it or not! I've always been a believer in wearing the clothes that I feel good in, this is something that certainly makes me feel good in my own skin.

I'd love to know your thoughts on this!

*This bra set was sent to me in exchange for Instagram content. I was not asked or obliged to write a blog post to include the underwear. All views are my own. For more details, please read my disclaimer.

  4. I loved reading this, you made so many great points. I'm not a huge fan of the word sexy either but I agree with you, I think confidence is a big part of it. You could be the most stunning person on earth but if the confidence isn't there, there's definitely something lacking. Really interesting post! x

  14. I'm glad you mentioned thae part about accepting your flaws or imperfections. There's been plenty of times before when people have suggested that just correcting the flaws would be the only way to overcome them and it's not that hard, but accepting them seems more important for the mental state and is more realistic.

    1. That's so true lovely, it's important for people to know that it's so much better for mental health and confidence to embrace your flaws rather than correct them!

  15. This post has been so wonderful to read. It's realy refreshing to hear from someone who I see as a near on perfect and to see that you feel like you have imperfections. And they should be celebrated - we can't all look super slim or athletic, our bodies are working to keep us a live!
    Great post!
